660 worked beautifly!

Just got back from 2 week trip to mountains of NC...
Beautiful weather! Anything I asked of the 660 was entirely successful!

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

Take care of it!

It should last you for some time to come, as long as you take proper care of the power cord and connection of the unit. A nice model & well worth keeping!

Still Love My 660

I only use it as a backup now since I'm affected by the aging process I need to have a 5" screen that my 2460 provides.

The 660 series was released in September 2006 and mine was purchased in early 2007. The touchscreen still works perfectly and the original battery being 7 years old still holds a full charge. I find this unbelieveable since my 2460 begins losing it's charge after a few minutes, it even did that when purchased brand new.

Having the ability to hold a long charge, the 660 comes in handy if needed in Pedestrian mode, smaller to carry and longer battery life.

Still use & love my 660, too. It does everything I need. Just can't fit the full NA maps on it anymore, but I don't see myself traveling to Canada or Mexico any time soon. wink

I am also still using my 660. It has the original battery but doesn't hold a charge much longer than 5 to 10 minutes. I had to delete the unused language files to load the new maps. The only issue is the power cord is starting to fray at the mounting connector. I have taped it to hold in place but that doesn't work well. It is still getting me around after 7 years.

Even if you put the full North America 2015.10 on an SD card, the 660 can't read it. The 2015.10 map size is 2.17GB, the 660 can't read any single map size over 2GB.

If you don't need or use the Traffic Feature (I don't\unreliable), you can get a replacement power cable fairly reasonable.

Here is a link for one on Ebay for 6.43 free shipping, maybe make an offer and get it cheaper, shows he has more than 10 on hand.

In addition the older 660's, came with a better touchscreen less prone to problems. Those units came with serial #'s beginning with 186 (I have that one).
Later 660 units beginning with serial #'s 13N, 14V, or 143 were more prone to touchscreen issues.

660 processor is slow and

660 processor is slow and cannot calculate map refresh faster than the current GPS out there. The 660 is solid however it is slow and the new models the screens show more information. Once you move to the newer models you just wont go back to the older units. i have the 760 and 2597lmt.
