55LMT Opinions?

I'm vaguely interested in replacing my 265WT (and I have lifetime maps) with something newer and better but not really finding anything compelling with Garmin. The 55LMT has a larger screen but not sure that it has much else. Even the screen resolution is the same. Surprising that Garmin has not increased screen resolution all these years. Frankly, I often use Google Maps on my smartphone instead of my Garmin for short trips around town. I tend to use my Garmin on long trips only.

Anyone out there with opinions about the 55LMT or something that is a serious upgrade from my 265WT?

You get junction view and

You get junction view and lifetime maps with the 55. The 265 came with neither. Personally, one of the 25xx units is a better choice. Much better junction view imagery and some added bells and whistles make for a worthwhile upgrade.

Thanx

Thanks, looks very similar to what my 265 has. And as noted above, I bought the lifetime maps for my 265 so any change in units must have lifetime maps for me. Other opinions/observations?

I haven't noticed

much discussion around these "Essential" series devices. I bought a 65LMT (6") a few weeks ago and am really starting to like it. It's fair to say the interface and user experience is completely re-freshed and takes a bit of getting used to. It's very different. However, there are certain aspects, like the search function, that are vastly improved. Maybe all the newest nuvis enjoy these updates?? I know it's hard to comprehend all the changes made by looking at Garmin's website, but the unit I bought feels like a newer generation compared to the many Garmins I've owned.

My father bought a 50LM a few months ago but I have not seen it. He seems to be pleased with it so far.

The only negative I can report on the 65LMT is the screen resolution viewed thru my sunglasses isn't really as good as earlier units. However, the 65LMT does have "Themes" so one can play around with different colors and possibly find a display output that's more suitable. I also REALLY like the standby (Sleep) feature. The unit also has the more precise locating feature and the higher definition (RealVoice?) sound for Samantha.

@OP: The 2557LMT is the same

@OP: The 2557LMT is the same price as the 55LMT, which is the main reason I recommended the 25xx. See https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/catalog/product/compareResul... for a comparison between your unit, the one you're thinking of purchasing, and a 25xx unit. For the record, the differences between the 55 and the 25xx unit I used for comparison are that you get photorealistic Junction Views instead of the images in the the 5x units, Garmin's "Real Directions" feature for your voice prompts, and Traffic Trends.
