Address changed by GPS

My nuvi 40 with the 2015.10 Map does the same thing, but my 255W with an old map keeps the correct house number.

When I put the address in Google Maps, at first it looks like it is at the intersection you described but after zooming in, the location is shown to be to the West of the intersection. That is in Map view.

When I switch to satellite view, I get the same result as you.

My suspicion is that street addresses on military bases are not readily available to Google and others. I checked an address in base housing where we once lived with the same results as the OP. I suspect that programs that establish the geolocations of specific addresses don't have access to the data. These individual "properties" don't show up on the county real estate tax rolls and likewise are unknown to folks like Zillow.com. I think the best option is to use a mapping program like Google Earth or make an actual visit to obtain an accurate set of coordinates for the physical location and then tweak your POI or Waypoint accordingly. As for the address change, did the base reassign house numbers?

Outside of military bases there are other reasons for address/coordinate mismatches. Many rural locations in particular had to standardize street addresses some years ago to improve the 911 emergency response database which often changed the numbers assigned to homes. It took awhile, but the geocoding was notoriously way off and is arguably better now although there are still areas where an address may be coded to the middle of a lake, but if the emergency responders show up at your front door when called, that's what really matters! Likewise, there was a period when Navteq considered every block to contain 100 addresses. If the houses on your block were numbered 1006 through 1015, obviously 1015 would be at the end of the block, but their coding system put it roughly at the 2nd house on the other end of the block, maybe even on the wrong side of the street. That has been getting better also.

I can confirm that a nuvi search (tested on a 2460 and 3597) for 9221 does redirect you to 9198 instead for that search and that Google Earth and Google Maps show the same intersection location.

Regarding the nuvi search, the current and all the earlier map versions I checked believe that addresses higher than 9199 do not exist on Utah Dr which may explain the number change we see so it resets your search to almost the highest address it thinks exists on Utah Dr.

My thought is that the Air Force, county, or whoever supplies map data to Garmin's map makers is supplying incorrect or incomplete data resulting in this error.

A search on Google Earth and Google Maps for 9221 will take you to where it thinks that address is, therefore accepting 9221 as a valid address, but once again, the actual address locations remain in error.

All you can do right now, I expect, is to either drive to your daughter's home--or with the GPS simulator, set your location to her home--then save the location as a Favorite. Saving by address will fail for you. I suppose you could also have her supply you with the lat/long of her home as save it that way.

I had mixed results with this.

On both devices, I searched near FairChild AFB and entered 9221 Utah. Saved as Favorite/Saved Place

My 765 shows the address as
9199 Utah Dr
Fairchild Air Force Base. WA 99011
United States

My 2595 shows the address as
9221 Utah St Ne
Bremerton, WA 98311

These are not at the same place

If I change the search on the 2595 slightly and make the number 9199 and then enter Utah, I get to pick from
9199 Utah Dr
Fairchild Air Force Base, WA 99011
and
9199 Utah St NE
Bremerton, WA 98311

Go Figure

Same is true if you SEARCH ALL in Washington state. Enter 9199 Utah will get the same 2 results you have.

Entering 9221 Utah will only bring back the Bremerton address.

According to the nuvi mapset (2015.10 and one older one that I checked), Utah Drive at Fairchild AFB has addresses running from 9100-9199 so it can never find a 9200+ address on the base. It then starts looking at other Washington state addresses that do contain 92xx and Utah for a match.

Goggle does show the numerical address, but the location is incorrect. If you switch to satellite the address is in the middle of the intersection. When it is really 7 houses west on the south side of the street.
