New TTS3 Voices link? Please.

Howdy all. I have a small problem. My Garmin Nuvi 3597 won't or can't connect to Garmin Express. I've tried everything. Nada. It's a Windows 7 issue that is too deep to fix. It would require a fresh install. Not worth it.

What I need are the latest TTS3 voices. If someone could post a link to a zip file on dropbox or whatever that would be great.

Thanks all!

You should be able to get them by logging into my.garmin.com and using myDashboard. For some reason the TTS3 voices are not offered on WebUpdater, but last time I checked they were still offered on myDashboard.

TTS3

The voices:

I was able to use Garmin Express to get the voices, but others have reported that you can log into myGarmin with your GPS connected to the computer, and select/download/install the voices there as well:

As you may have already tried, these voices can't be added with Garmin's WebUpdater as has been do-able with earlier nuvi models.

One more thing

That alandb is quick and beat me to it.

One more thing: In looking at the files on my 3597, it appears that when I updated to the extra TTS3 voices, in addition to receiving the .vpm voice files, it also added or revised several files in the Speech Recognition folder (/.system/ASR/), so simply obtaining the voice files from someone else may result in problems with speech recognition. I see that even for the English language voices, there are three specific .srd files: one for Australian, one for British, and one for US English--oddly, there's not one for Indian English. In addition to the added .srd files, there are new immense files that replaced earlier files (.srx and .asr).

PS--Wow, a 5.5-year member and a first post. cool I wonder if that's a record. Welcome old First Poster.

Thanks for all the info

Thanks for all the info folks. It's appreciated. I tried the mygarmin method but it requires a plugin that my computer dislikes. When Windows 8.2 comes out in the third quarter I may upgrade then and fix a few of these problems.

Browser?

The plug-in (Garmin Communicator) works well with Internet Explorer, but I've read that some of the other browsers require you to manually enable the plug-in after installing it to get things working for you. I don't know if this applies to you.

Also, note that Garmin Express and other Garmin software on a PC may also need the latest version of Windows Media Player.

No problem with windows 7 and garmin express

I had a problem with Garmin Express. First I went to the Garmin site to check Garmin Communicator, a browser plug-in:

http://software.garmin.com/en-US/gcp.html

This web page checks for Communicator and installs it if needed. Communicator was already installed but it was being blocked by the browser (Chrome) and I had to click on "always trust content from Garmin." Communicator was now working. The same thing can happen to Internet Explorer.

Express still hung on the start of the map update. My device, nuvi 3597, had been detected but it had a question mark over its icon. I did what alandb said to remove the device from Garmin Express, restart the computer, and let Garmin Express detect it again. The question mark was gone.

Garmin Express is now working properly.

Before you download the voices, update to the latest firmware for the 3597, using Garmin Express. Then restart the nuvi to install the firmware.

A number of posters want to avoid Garmin Express, but it has worked perfectly with the 3597 and Windows 7, 64 bit.
