Test out Junction Views

Note that there are now several types of Junction View - a PhotoReal Junction View and a BirdsEye Junction view. The Photoreal version shows the upcoming interchange from the perspective of the driver of the vehicle. Bird’s Eye junction view offers a detailed view of interchanges, looking down as if from overhead (ie., from a bird's eye)

PS—with the 3597 and other devices that offer a 3D Digital Elevation Map (DEM), you should see a shaded relief overlay on the standard City Navigator map. Driving along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon along Hwy 64 may be the best example.

If you have never seen a Junction View display on your Garmin unit, you can easily find out what one looks like by using the turn-by-turn directions that your unit creates when you let it calculate a route. The turn list is accessed by touching the top text bar on the map display.

The turn list page displays then turn-by-turn instructions for your entire route including the distance between turns. Touch the first entry in the turn list to get more details - probably starting with a map view.

You will have up and down arrows that let your review your route. As you step through the turns, you will see (or be given the option to see) the Junction Views as they occur along the route.

One way to get a route that will surely show a number of Junction Views is to have the unit calculate a route to some major city. I will give the steps I use on my older 765 and then on my newer 2595.

On the 765
1. Where To?
2. [down arrow]
3. Cities (and the unit will give you the 50 closest cities to your current location)
4. Press Spell
5. Enter something like "Chicago" (without the quotes) and press Done
6. Find "Chicago, IL" from the available choices
7. Press Go and the unit will calculate a route to Chicago
8. Press the top text bar to get the Turn List
9. Press an entry on the Turn List; the display will show a map, turn instructions, and the distance to the turn

As you press the down arrow to get to the next turn, the "Lane Assist" button in the bottom center will be "greyed out" until a Junction View is available. Pressing a blue Lane Assist button will display the Junction View. On my 765, it takes several seconds for the Junction view to appear, so be patient. Use the Back button to return to the Turn List and continue looking for Junction Views.

On the 2595
1. Where To?
2. Categories
3. [down arrow several times]
4. Cities (and the unit will give you the 50 closest cities to your current location)
5. Search
6. Enter "Chic" (without the quotes) and "Chicago" will become one of the choices
7. Press Chicago and choose "Chicago, IL" from the available choices
8. Press Go and the unit will calculate a route
9. Press the top text bar to get the Turn List
10. Press an entry on the Turn List; the display will show a map, turn instructions, and the distance to the turn

At this point, pressing the Down Arrow will proceed through the Turn List, but on this unit the Junction View will appear automatically if it is available.
