Free navigation

Ran across this free GPS App. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.... .I like the features it offers and appears very easy to use. Have not try out on the road yet. Just checking out what I can at home. Has Camera downloads also free. Not sure just how accurate they may be.It loads maps to the SD Card.

Any feedback from anyone who has this installed and have used it?

Needs DATA

It's Called "WAZE".
I know how good it is, because my Garmin 2495LMT couldn't alert me to a traffic jam right in front of me, but when I turned on WAZE, it picked it up right away.

I have a cell phone and have WAZE, but its no good without having a DATA plan. GPS does not need one!

Mapfactor Better Than Navfree

Installed Mapfactor on my Android tablet. I use my NUVI2555LMT for navigation, but my wife likes to be able to see where we're going, where we've been and details about where we are. No need for a data plan with this app.

I set the beginning and end points and let Mapfactor choose its route. I don't really care if it chooses a slightly different route, than the NUVI, since it will recalculate as soon as the actual route deviates from its own.

I used to print off maps from Streets and Trips or AAA Trip Planner. Now she can choose to look at the tablet whenever she wants or leave it alone. When she wants to look, the map is automatically in the correct spot and she can zoom in or out to hearts content.

I doubt if I would ever replace my NUVI with this, but if you're in need of something simple and free, its perfect.

No Data Plan Needed for Mapfactor

The important question is whether the app can navigate without a 3G or 4G connection. This is for tablets which are wifi only and for phones in an area with a poor cell signal.

No need for a data plan or wifi to navigate.

I have this downloaded on my smartphone as a back-up. Have not actually used it, yet, but curious how good it preforms. The maps reside on your phone so you don't need wifi, only gps.

GPS Better, but good alternative

Mapfactor Features:
No wifi or data plan needed. Loads to SD card. Choose only maps you might need to reduce memory storage. Accepts multiple waypoints. Easy to search for addresses. Automatically centers on map. Able to set avoidances.

GPS will still be my preferred choice.
