As far as red light cameras, when they're near hospitals, it does seem suspect. Especially when someone explains an emergency situation, and the judge doesn't budge.

I have agreed with your previous comments about this particular situation. I agree that the gentleman who had copies of the emergency room visit should have been let off (assuming that we had all of the facts that would bear on the situation).

However, just because a red light camera is near a hospital in no way makes it suspect (unless it was the only camera in town). I did a bit of research on this incident and find that the camera in question is one of a lot of cameras on the specific highway (known as University Drive) that runs by University Hospital in Tamarac, FL. I used the poi-factory file to trace them.

I have not seen any reporting that indicated that there were other than 2 (out of 494) instances that could be attributed to a person going to the hospital itself (and I will say again that I think they should have been granted leniency.

polygraphs are not conclusive

It's common knowledge that people beat polygraphs by simply placing a thumbtack in their shoe, pressing it with their toe.

Again, I think that people at times simply like to argue. It's that, "Not in my neighborhood" mentality.

This is the internet, not much is verifiable and it's somewhat anonymous, like driving a car. There's a tendency to act a little differently than when you're at a gathering of coworkers or relatives.

following the law or breaking it due to self preservation?

If I could kill someone (which is against the law) because of self-defense, then why can’t I go through a red light because of self-preservation? Self-defense and self-preservation should be one and the same thing.
