What do I dare erase from my SD card?

I have an 8GB sd card in my Nuvi 260W. I'd like to erase non-essential files to make more room. Here is a list of the files in the Garmin folder on the sd card at present.

46B601FC-A186-4E47-AB83-C604EABA6967.gma
gmappupdate.gsd
gmapsup1.gma
gmapsup1.img
gmapsup1.unl
gmapsupp copy.img
gmapsupp.img

What do you suggest I erase to create more space?

While I'm posting, the following is a list of the files in the Garmin folder of my 260W; anything here that can be deleted?

Diag
ExtData
fs_image.ver
GarminDevice.xml
gmapbmap.img
gmapbmap.sum
gmapprom.gma
gmapprom.img
gmapprom.unl
gmaptz.img
gmaptz.sum
GPX
GUPDATE.GCD
Help
JPEG
Locales.xml
nuvi_drive.ico
POI
prodkey.bin
prodkeyNA.bin
RemoteSW
Text
Vehicle
Voice

Again, thanks for your help!

It is kind of hard to advise you as we don't know what maps you have on you nuvi and which of them you want to keep. One thing that would be helpful is to note the file dates of all the gmap*.* files. Then do this: Boot up your nuvi, go to Tools > Settings > Map > Map Info and jot down the maps that are listed. Shut off the nuvi, remove the SD card and repeat the procedure. Let us know the results.

In any case, make a full backup of both your nuvi internal storage and SD card before you delete anything.

what to keep and what to delete

If you have an 8GB SD CARD why do you need more space I also have an 8 GB and for what I see I have more install on my SD card and still have over 3gb of room left.I Notice that On your SD card you do not have no JCV files.on the SD card I would not delete no files if I was you,but I would add more stuff there On mine I keep also my JCV and my POI there.

About your garmin unit if you need to make more room. I will open the file called VOICE as you will see there you have many different language,If you do not speak Garman,or Italian,or franch ect you can delete them.THe JPEG files are the one that you get on your Gps start up,I know they are many there some I have delete the one that I do not like.

I was running out of room on my Internal GPS and I clear the folder called GPX and it clear over 250 MB
of free space.

No JCV ...

there is no JCV because the nuvi 2xx series does not support junction views. It would serve no purpose to add a JCV file.

NO JCV

I riceived my garnim nuvi 1400 as a gift and I notice that where no JCV files, but on the box it show me the picture that the nuvi 1400 was jcv compatible, and the reason I think they where no jcv file install maybe cause of not enough room space,So I never saw any junction view display when I was driving, not untill I got me a 8GB SD card I install JCV there and now I see them full screen.

Why the 1xx series display JCV and not the 2xx series?

There

There isn't a 1xx series.

The 1xxx series displays Junction Views on thoughs models within the series that support it. This JCV support is not in the 2xx models.

Delete the Archive directory.

Delete the Archive directory.

geee

for 1xx I mean 1200;1300-1400

.

Based on the file dates and your Map Info, it would seem that the gmapsup1.* files on the SD card contain the current 2014.40 map. The previous 2014.30 version is in the gmapprom.* files on the internal storage. It is not clear what the gmapsupp.img or gmapsupp copy.img files are ... probably some old versions that are no longer used.

It is up to you whether you want to risk deleting the gmapprom files in internal storage or the 2 apparently unused gmapsupp.* files on the SD. Since your nuvi is working, you may want to just leave it as is. In any case, do not delete the gmapsup1.* files on the SD, the gmapbmap.* files or gmaptz.* files. These are your current City Navigator map, the base map and time zone files which you need.

And again, if you decide to delete anything, make a complete backup first.
