Old Map version VS new one

I have the 2014.20 Garmin map on SD card, before I update to the New 2014.40 I would like to know what does Garmin change on the New Version, I know Garmin is a company they the care about making money, and don"t you wish they would tell you what did they change from the older version to the new one? and from those that they have already done the Update do you see any different in the way the map look, and what others features the New version has it that the old did not have?

Does garmin have a link with a description of the changes on those new map version? and all those map update is it worth the cost?

To detail all the changes in

To detail all the changes in the maps is impossible, because roads change constantly, and you have a lot of roads to cover.

There is however one exception. Garmin noted for 2014.40 an increase in the number of POIs on the map from 6 million to 10 million. That increase may have occurred in a prior map, but I didn't catch it.

Is it worth it? That's up to you to decide.

map update changes.

It is sort of like asking Yellow Book to list the changes they made in the new phone book. While it would be nice to know what has been updated on the map for your local area, it is just impractical to identify all the changes from one map version to the next.

I was pleased that two specific updates to roads in my area were included in this version. I have been waiting for these specific updates since 2011, and it definitely helps with local routing to have them.

I (for one) am thankful that Garmin provides map updates every 3 months. I have installed every one of them since the first lifetime map update in Jan. 2009 (a total of 21 versions).

It would be nice if there was a preview site so you could look for specifics in the current map version. I was thinking that there used to be one, but haven't heard it mentioned in years of following several forums.

I don’t think they are Garmin's maps

I belive the map data comes from Navteq which is now www.here.com. You can go there and look at the map data. I don't know the cut off time frame for Navteq data to be turned into Garmin maps.

Navteq.

Yes, I am aware of Navteq's site. But it is never clear just how far behind Garmin is from Navteq's current map. Also, sometimes you want to know about POI's and I am not sure that Garmin gets those from Navteq. But you make a good point and the Navteq link gives you an idea of what is in the works for road updates.

I figure it could be 6 months to a year, before the changes show on the Garmin, after Navteq. Navteq can take that long to accept an error report and change it. It is not fast.

Like it or not, that's still probably better than paper maps and definitely faster than Factory Installed Automotive Nav Systems.
