Speed Cameras in Florida

I have lived in Florida my entire and have been familiar with red light cameras for some time. I was not aware, however, that there are speed cameras. Yesterday, while driving through Apopka, FL, my trust Garmin and POI red light and speed camera POIs alerted me to several speed cameras.

Could it be possible this is a mistake? Are there speed cameras appearing more and more in stated? These are much worse than red light cameras.

Why do you say that?

They are similar to one officer with a radar gun and a radio sending information to chase cars further down the road - except that instead of getting stopped you get a ticket in the mail.

Seems to me that, in your case, the Garmin gives you an alert when approaching one whereas you would not have warning of the radar setup.

Many people complain about red light camera dangers and dilemma zones (see the 1/28/14 post by Twix above) and I do not see similar complaints about speed cameras.

No speed cameras in Florida

There is no legislation enacted in the state of Florida to authorize speed cameras. You got a false positive.

Agreed

Fixed

It looks like three were put in around 2010 and were thought to be speed and RLC combos. I removed the speed alert.
The change will show on next Wednesday's update.
