How often do you factory reset?

I have two Garmins, 750 and 760. Lately, the location has been off about half the time by as much as 3,000 ft, while the satellite signal screen claims less than 30 ft accuracy.

I got the coordinates and the location as shown on the map. The map matches the coordinates, but way off from where I actually was. So the problem is the coordinates. Not the map.

Tonight, I've factory reset both units. I'll see if the problem persists. I've also read somewhere that it's not a bad idea to factory reset a PC once a year.

So here's the question:

Do you periodically factory reset your Garmin? If so, how often? If not, have you had any problem similar to what I've experienced?

I don't do too often. But

I don't do too often. But now Garmin Express has backup option so it is lot easy to do it. I had many routing issues on my 3597. Once I did reset, all those issues gone. Since then I believe in resetting it more.

Mine runs in moods.. Its good for a few months then resetting it 2 to 3 times a week, for no reason for why its not working.

Reset

I think I've had to reset my Nuvi 660 three times so far.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

No

I've had about five hand-helds and five vehicle models since the mid 90s and have never had to do a reset on any of them.

Factory Reset 1450 LMT

I do it only when it starts to act funny...which is very rare.

Never

Personally, I have never reset.

I have never done a factory

I have never done a factory reset. Is it critical? I'm a big believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Never have

I have never reset my 755, 2360, or 3597. However, the comment earlier about doing it since Garmin Express makes a backup does make it an easier propsition.

Limited Backup

GE does not back up the entire unit (which is something EVERYONE should do. It will back up Favorites/Saved Places.

I only had to do factory

I only had to do factory reset when I was installing custom firmware. Otherwise GPS must work properly. Cold start always helps to fix most of the problems.

I've not had to do it yet.

I've not had to do it yet.

3490

my garmin 3490 crashes and/or freezes at least once per trip. Had garmin replace the unit but it still does the same thing. I've even executed 2 factory resets and ran the unit as if new. Still the same problems. I think the 3490 has a software defect or I've found a bug.

I think it happens when I take an alternate route and it has to constantly recalculate. My older garmin 350 has NEVER had a problem.

Could It Be Possible

Could i be possible that there are alerts occurring at the same time? Traffic or Red Light? Or something of that nature. Most units don't multitask well when you have multiple alerts happening at the same time.

Did not reset but..

I did have to turn off and then back on during a trip to Washington DC from NY.

When I was in DC, starting to drive back to NY, the poi for speed camera (and red camera) went off a few times (almost every block or so really) anyways, on one of those, the alert in the upper left hand showed and stayed on. Since I was driving, I did not touch the GPS since it was still working on (except for the Red light alert sitting there) I got to a rest stop, touched the icon, told me that I am near a red light camera in DC! so I had to do a reboot, and it went away.

Has anyone else experince this issue?

never had to

I have had three Street Pilots, two Nuvis, and about four handhelds. I have never had to reset any of them.

Multiple alerts in close proximity have definitely caused my nuvi 855 to lock up on occasion, requiring a hard power down and restart.

Never

I have the 750 also and can't remember ever doing a factory reset. What I am noticing is it's slow to update. I'm sure after years of use, the maps are getting bloated and this unit is having trouble processing all the info.

Can the garmin 2597 be

Can the garmin 2597 be formatted and the OS and files reloaded?

In case it's slowing down and/or have too much data. Clear the cobwebs, so to speak.

If so, how does one go about it?

NO

These units are partioned and you don't have acces the the OS partion, Just do a factory reset if desparate, otherwise just clear the logs.

mysteriously froze once again

my garmin 3490 mysteriously froze again. Ran a firmware update. If it freezes again I'll try to turn off voice commands.

My replacement from Garmin is behaving exactly the same as it did on the original unit.

There are some firmware

There are some firmware updates that mess up the Garmin unit even if you reset numerous times. Knock-on-wood that I haven't run into this lately with the latest Garmin units.

Did one today. No help.

Garmin has apparently "done it again". Ever since I downloaded and installed the latest "Updates" I can not get data from my trip logs except as a blue line on a map! No more statistics like maximum speed, distance between points, elevation or any of the other things I used to have access to. So, just to make sure it wasn't my "senior moments" kicking in again, I resorted to reading the manual. Manual says I should be able to do it, yet the option specified by the manual no longer exists. Why does Garmin keep doing crap like this to it's customers?

I've got the Zumo 660lm. Not sure it's worth the premium price. I know I wouldn't buy it again at 600 bucks! Cadillac unit, Chevy customer service.

resets

I reset when it does anything that is out of the ordinary. With my 3590 LMT, I have not reset it in about a year and a half.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

Never

I've had GPS units for almost eight years and I've never had the need to do a factory reset. I've had my Nuvi 1450 for the last six years and it's been a real trooper the whole time.

Never done a factory reset unless something is majorly wrong. No point in my book.

long, long ago

As in very rarely. There are times when a fresh start will correct an issue, but normally not needed. For those that advocate doing a factory reset after every update,I have to ask why would you want to subject yourself to all the extra wo of moving data files and reentering items?

I've never done a hard reset on any of my devices though. Not a PND. Other device with navigation, sure - iPhone, Windows Phone, PC, etc. but never a PND.
