Garmin and the 50 closest poi

Hallo again.

This time i wonder if there is an easy way to look at all of the pois in a file in my garmin?

As it is now i can easily see the 50 nearest poi and to look at the rest of the poi in my file i have to search for them with their names.
Is there any setting that can bee adjusted so i can look att all of my poi in my garmin? not just the 50 closest.

What i want to do is a quality check to see if every poi is showing as it should and to check that every picture shows as i want.

best regards Jocke

Go to your computer

You used POI Loader to load the POI's to your GPSr. To use POI Loader you had to point to a folder on your computer. Look there. The POI's will be in either .csv or .gpx format, both readable.

That is a limitation

You can only see the closest 50 to your current location.

If I recall, to sort of get around this, if you select the 50th POI that is furthest from you as a destination, then you can search based on your destination and can see a few more.

Not really what you are wanting to do, but I don't think you can get around it.

As Plunder has said, you can look at the files on your computer several ways. I suggest Extra POI Loader (EPE) as it will let you walk through the POIs one by one.

Start by reading these FAQs
Downloading and Installing EPE {G}
Configuring EPE {G}

Thanks

My problem is/was this: I have created a file in EPE and when i converted my gpx file to Gpi with poiloader many of my pictures (one picture/poi) was not shown in my garmin.

But i found the problem, in sweden we have these Å-Ä-Ö and Epe does not have any problems with those letters, but poiloader did not like them at all.
So now i have changed the letters in my links for the pictures and i just want to do a quality control, my plan was to check every poi over a night or so if it was possible.
I will do some random check instead. smile

Not sure what you mean by "quality control". If you mean that you want to check that you "converted" all the letters, could you not just do that in Notepad or Wordpad?

The letters is changed now

The letters is changed now and what i want to do is to check the pois when they are inside my garmin.

The file works fine in Epe and every picture for every poi is showed, my problem was that when i had put the file into my garmin with poi loader many pictures was missing.

Now with my rebuilt file with pictures, and all the links for them is changed in Epe my plan was to look at all pois to see if the pictures are showing in my garmin.

I have to little experience with wordpad and notepad, i have them but i have not the skills yet.

.

All you can do is to search for each one by using the name.

Even though they don't show up in the list, you can search for them by name.

Yes, i think thats the only

Yes, i think thats the only option i have, but if i dont ask i never learn something new. smile

View in Google Earth

This may be useful to you... Use EPE to save your file as a .kml or use a converter available online to convert .cvs to .kml. Once you have the kml file, open it with Google Earth and all of your points will display. I've found this useful to verify the locations I've created appear where they should.

I believe the OP wants to see them on the gps

I suspect the OP wants to look at what he has on the gps because he mentions pictures. I am assuming he has pictures associated with favorites.

Yes, i have a link to a picture on my harddrive for every poi, the link is inserted in the field for links in Extra poi editor.
When i use poiloader to put the file into my garmin every picture goes into my garmin thanks to poiloader and there is were i had som problems.

I think i sorted out my problems and with this thread i was looking for an easy way to control if the pictures actually was inside my garmin.

I think there is a function in EPE to "show poi on map" but i dont think its working at the moment.

Some day i can take some screenshots from my garmin to show how the pictures are shown.

If you must check within your GPS...

About the only other option I can see would be to break your POI file into sections with no more than 50 in each file. You can then verify them all, just 1 file at a time.

Keep the master file and make any corrections to it.

Yes that is a way to do it,

Yes that is a way to do it, i will think about wich method i am going for.

Another thing that cross my mind is if there is possible to simulate the position for my garmin.
I dont know if it can be done.

My file contents for the moment 1440 poi and there is some work to split it up in files of 50, not impossible and it may be a good lesson for me to learn wordpad and/or notepad++ smile

A big thank you for all the answers you give me, i appreciate them wery much!

Jocke,
look here
Learn to do Simulation (Garmin) {G}

John

Yes! :)

Thanks John, I followed your link and figured out how to simulate another position and that something that is really handy for me. Now its easier for me to control more of my pois without to search for one at the time.

I just choose another place and then i open my file in the navigator and the 50 closest poi "from another place" is shown in my Garmin. Excellent!

As i have said once before, its time for me to have a serios look in the "learn-area" wink

Many thanks, Jocke
