Travel Stops (places to see along I-10?)

We are Snow Birds going from Buffalo, NY to Corona, CA for the winter. I want to stop in Tenn and tour a burbon distillary and in Demming MN at the hot springs.

We go straight south from Buffalo to Cleveland, to Memphis and pick up I-10 in LA. We usually stay on I-10 all the way to PHoenix. Are there any places that you have found close to I-10 (50 miles)that we should stop and see? We are going to take out time this year and meander awhile. We usually go straight to CA and take our side trips coming back through the Northern states.

my suggestion

My suggestion is to use the web. Each of the states you are traveling through has a web site that is full of information about scenic sights and places.

Looking at your proposed route I would bypass Louisiana and Houston by going through Arkansas and Dallas. The causeway in LA is known for breaking suspensions and travel through Houston at anytime other than 4AM on Sunday morning is a BEAR.

Graceland in Memphis. There

Graceland in Memphis. There is not a lot on I-10 from my 2 trips on it in La and Tx. I-40 has several nice stops if you go or come back that way, Grand Canyon, OKC memorial and a cowboy museum at OKC, the Petrified forest in east AZ, Agree with other post go to the state tourism sites for more. The trail of Tears museum in ne Ark is worth the 50 plus miles of I-40 to visit. Palo Duro Canyon State Park near Amarillo, Tx. Hope this is of some help and happy travels.

A Good Rest Stop

Buc-ee's is a chain of travel service stores along highways in Texas. One of their flagship locations is on I-10 between Houston and San Antonio. They are often quite busy making sandwiches and with customers shopping. Super clean restrooms, and plenty of parking. Watch for the signs with the beaver wearing a red cap.

There is a Buc-ee's POI file available.
