POI - Very, very noooobie question

As I think I understand POI files saved on the Garmin or SD card They are installed as a a sub-directory of /Garmin in a folder named /Some Description.

My 1st question is under what heading should I be seeing the POI's? In the example above I would have thought that I would be seeing a listing under "Some Description", but instead I am seeing Custom POIs. Is this the right thing?

My 2nd question is regarding alerts. I understand that the naming protocol of Red Light Camera POI's start with a number. Is this what trigger these as alerts?\

Thanks in advance.

The file ends with a GPI extension and is placed in the Garmin\poi folder on the device. With newer units this may be in a hidden folder under .system. I suggest you start here with the beginner tutorials. http://www.poi-factory.com/tutorials

Yes, Custom POI is the correct heading where the files you load will be stored. They may (or may not) have different categories listed. This is explained in the tutorials.

The tutorials do give a better explanation of what sets an alert and how to set them. As a quick answer, a number in a file name sets a speed alert. The alert triggers at the value of the number and keeps repeating if you are going faster than that number.

You should never hesitate to ask for help here. There are folks here who have been through most of the problems you may encounter and they have either figured them out themselves or, like you (and me), they have asked for assistance here. It's rare to encounter a snarky response in these forums. It's common to get helpful and courteous assistance.

Ditto. You should have seen some of my posts from when I first discovered this site (don't search) and started asking questions! (only to discover that they had already been posted AND answered by others about FIFTY times!) redface

Can you say "embarassed"???

Anyway, the point is, everyone was always patient (especially the expert "old timers") and responded to the kindly confused old guy (Uncle Leo at the book store) with a nice answer.
