I have pretty much ran out of space on my device and will be downloading the update in the next few days. I haven't installed maps to a card yet so a couple of questions:
- can I use a 16 gig card
- I see there was a thread on here with multiple steps on how to install the maps on a card, so wondering if that is the way it has to be done? On GE there is an option to install directly to a card but haven't tested to see how/if it works just through their instructions..
you can

But the FAT32 format only allows 4 GB to be addressed.
Illiterate? Write for free help.
so no point wasting money on
so no point wasting money on a 16 gig I guess? If running off a card would I have to delete all old files when it runs out of space?

This "Search" box on top of this side is not for decoration only. It can really find something if you try.
SD Card Size
Here's a link to Garmin's FAQ on useable SD card sizes for automotive units. Most won't read anything above 8GB.

Some hand held receivers will accept larger sized cards including the new Monterra which will use a 64GB card.
that is what I can gather
that is what I can gather but others have posted using 16gig cards with success.....however, not all of the storage can be used. Found them on sale at a good price which is why I was wondering

Maximum size for FAT 32

FAT32 allows disks to be much larger than 4 GB. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314463. Microsoft claims largest disk size is 8 terabytes. I have used a 16 GB card in an 800 series Nuvi and it worked OK (all 16 GB visible).

I have a 16GB Micro SD in a Nuvi 52 and it is all available too.
Fat 32 Limitation
To make it simple, the Fat32 file system required for formatting an SD card does have a limitation of 4GB.
That 4GB limitation IS FOR ONE SINGLE FILE.
ONE SINGLE FILE WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED IF IT'S OVER 4GB.
I too have used a 16GB SD card in my Nuvi 2460 and it was recognized.
