Garmin nuvi 2455LMT and Zip Codes

I think traffic ads were stopped over a year ago for all models.

I have an 885 and it will use the zip to determine the city and state when doing a search. It does save some entry.

According to the manual on Page 12.Listed under Finding Address it says address or postal code.

I'd like someone with a 2455LMT to chime in. Despite the manual, I'm reading reviews that say this model doesn't support postal codes.

I did a test and my NUVI2555LMT did work when I put in the Canadian Postal Code, for my house, but when I tried finding a US Zip Code, it would not work. I tried two different Zip Codes, for a couple of US Hotels.

Maybe a Canadian Programmer worked on that feature at Garmin.

Just bought a NOS 2455LMT for a gift for my son. Updated the maps and firmware, and everything else I could think of. Just this morning, decided to route to a zip code, works fine. Perhaps a change in the maps or something added the feature.

I hope they never take away the postal code feature. there have been many times when I have put in the listed city and it is not the listed by the USPS. Then the address is not found because the wrong city was inputted. Having the postal code removes this issue andtakes away all of that uncertainty.

Or doing a "search all" should also work and then you don't need the postal code either as the Nuvi will search for all places within the selected state or province and you pick the one your looking for from the list provided. I've owned one Nuvi of the other since 2005 and don't ever recall doing a postal code search.

Good to know it can search by zip code.

Are you & your son happy with the 2455LMT? Is the 4GB of internal memory enough?

How do you do the ZIP code search? I cannot find it on my 2495. TIA.

I have a 2455lmt and I can not do a zip code search. You can perform a city search but with cities with multiple zip codes that may not be enough to meet your needs.

There are no ads with the traffic feature.

The internal installed "stuff" with no extras almost fills the 4GB (63.2 MB free)

The nuvi 2455LMT is a model that will be given the option during a map update to install the new full City Navigator North America NT map to a SD card if the full map the nuvi is entitled to receive will not fit internally:

When the map update is next performed (and a new map is likely to come out in the next month) the map and associated files can go to a SD card and this will create lots of free space in the nuvi's internal storage. (If no SD map is preferred, you are still given the option of installing less than the full North America map internal to the nuvi, but I don't see where many folks would want this.)

Other options to free up space inside the nuvi is to delete unneeded voice, text and traffic files. Unless you speak Greek or Spanish, there's really no need to keep the voices in those languages. Many here just keep the English language voices on our nuvis and delete the rest.

As always, before tinkering with nuvi files, please make a full computer backup of the entire nuvi.

And finally, if a map update is installed to a SD card, remember that the SD card is now part of the nuvi--remove the card and you've lost your City Navigator map.

Truthfully, it's for a Christmas gift, and once I got it updated, I put it back in the box and it's sitting here on a shelf waiting.

I added a 16 gb card so I could put a few POI files, etc on it. I'm not sure it's possible to do much with just the internal memory.

Oh my! After all this I discovered that I had added, and promptly forgot about, the zip code POI file at (I think) http://www.poi-factory.com/node/20160 ! I suppose that's what's being searched. Pretty easy to add, I would suggest doing so.

iv had my unit for quite a while. been using the zipcode search with no problems. NOW all of a sudden, it wont let me search for zip. the zip no longer pops up after "address".
