To be honest I didn't think I'd like my 3797 and purchased it with the thought of taking it back if the changes made to the interface from older models were just things I couldn't live with but after about 3 days of using it I lost all thoughts of returning it.

I´m thinking of replacing my Nuvi 3790 which has been giving me problems with the 3597LMT EU version with Europe lifetime maps & traffic but I do a lot of travleing in the USA and I´m interested in the HD traffic available there do you know if I can receive that if I buy the GTM 60 receiver cord ... No one here seems to know and I can´t get a response out of Garmin USA. Also I need to buy City Navigation North America NT 2014.20 preflebly Download version .. any idea where the cheapest deal is. Ecoroute is a fun gadget but accuracy seems to fluctuate a lot regarding real time mpg. It seems that when you use it to track your fuel consumption by entering fill ups (lets you enter price, mileage and gallons pumped) it affects how it calculates mpg while driving. Mine is sometimes right on the money and sometimes way off. I can't figure out why only guessing because of the above taking place. It does show you how different driving styles affect your mileage, even if it's not super accurate. My built in computer is usually right on (doesn't fluctuate like the garmin) and when comparing the two, real time mpg on the garmin is often higher or lower by a lot. Maybe it's a sampling thing, seems the garmin updates much more frequently. Average consumption seems to be fairly accurate. Also once in a while it does not connect (connects via bluettooth) and pairing a Samsung Galaxy S3 with the GPS at the same time makes the ecoroute act really erratic, so much so that I don't usually pair up my phone anymore.

On the Garmin website the 3597 is listed as being compatible with the GTM 60. Check compatible devices for yourself here:

From personal experience HD traffic (using a 3490LMT which came with GTM 60) is only available in close proximity to larger cities. Traffic data is somewhat accurate (northern east coast) but not available enough. I travel from NH to Boston frequently and usually get stuck in traffic before I get a signal. My 2 cents worth on that.

THXS for the info reester. From what I understand by Garmin here in Iceland it's not enough to buy the GTM 60 the 3597 LTM (Not LTMHD)will not receive HD traffic.
So I´ll have to weigh my options .. little or no warranty is I buy in the US or buy here full warranty and no HD traffic.

Can someone explain how to get custom alerts with the Gramin 3597? I loaded the sound file with the poi loader. Changed the name to match my custom red lighte6 file and renamed sound file to wav. Installed the sox.exe file. Used the simulate feature on the Garmin. I see the custom icons, but not the alert. What am I doing wrong. Using sound files for this board.

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 for a guide to install. Make sure the sox.exe located per the instructions. Make sure you have a good wav file.I notice you have red lighte6 as the name. Is that correct?

If you only RENAMED the sound file to WAV then that is probably the cause of your problem. You'd need to CONVERT the .mp3 files found here to WAV files before they would work with your POI file.

Thank you, I got it working. I used easy creator to convert to wav. I was under the impression that the sox file did the converting.
