Baltimore COUNTY - Red Light & Speed Cameras

To Angela (et al) -

I know the info below is NOT in the standard full-format for new POI listings (e.g. Lat/Long coordinates, speed limits, etc). However, I thought I would all least post this to help get this addition started.

Below is the current (as of 9/12/2013) listing of both Red Light -and- Speed Cameras in Baltimore COUNTY.
You will notice that the Speed Cameras are all only in school zones. This list of speed cams is from the web-page of Baltimore County Police Dept.
NOTE: While there are 40 listings for Speed Camera locations, Baltimore County Police have mobile units and move them around from time to time. So currently, only about 30 of the Speed cam locations are active at any one time.

There was NO public list of Red Light cams because ..... it was not required to be posted by MD law !! However, I reached a Crpl Charles Schruhl of the Traffic Management Division at 410-887-7361. He sent me the list of Red Light cameras (only 8 of them). He also confirmed that the Baltimore COUNTY Red Light & Speed camera system IS still in active operation.

Baltimore County wraps arounf 3 sides of Baltimore CITY and covers a lot of territory. I am a city resident and don't cover much of that area in my car. My hope is that other members who are familiar with roads in Baltimore County will help provide additional needed info for these listings - such as the posted speed limits, coordinates, etc.

Baltimore County Listings

After I submitted my initial above posting, I downloaded the recent 9/11/13 files and tried to check for some of them. As I mentioned in an email I sent, it is hard to locate or check for a particular listing because the files entries are not organized or sorted by location.
.
I think the Baltimore County Speed cam listings are fairly up to date.
However, unless I am mistaken, some of the Red Light listings were missing. Please let me know if I am wrong about that.
.
BTW - Late last night, I did try reorganizing or re-compiling one of the files to see if it would help to make it easier to geographically group and locate listings.
I opened the csv file in WORD, took a sample of entries and converted them Text-to-Table (with Commas as the separator). This produced a Table with 4 columns:
Longitude, Latitude, Streets, Name.
I was then able to Sort on any one of the columns -- I chose Longitude. With a few exceptions or "anomalies" (mainly due to Latitude differences) this gave a decent grouping to help locate geographically related listings.
.
Note:
- I did not try a Compound-Sort; using a secondary field. Don't know how that would have worked or if it would help further.
- Also, WORD limited the number of Rows I could work with, so I could not work with the entire files entries all at once. Maybe, working same process in Excel would not have that limitation.

@sstrippoli

Yup. During our cross check, we found a couple of red light cams that were tagged Baltimore instead of Baltimore county. They're fixed and will be in the next update.

If you notice any other changes, please use email or the "report an enforcement camera" link on the right side of the page. They're much better communication channels for working out details than all this back and forth in public forum posts.

Thanks,

Jonathan (aka JM)

You went through a lot of work. You should have opened the file in excel. Then you could have sorted the file any way you wanted and even searched for what you wanted.

Baltimore County’s speed

Baltimore County’s speed cameras are reported to be more mobile than they appear. One location I am familiar with has two camera mounts, one for each direction. Apparently the County uses only one camera, but moves it frequently, and even removes it on weekends.
