new twist to redlight cameras in Houston

Houstonians who owe the city for red-light camera tickets soon could have a new reason to pay up.

Harris County and the Texas Department of Transportation could refuse to register a vehicle whose owner has an outstanding $75 red-light camera ticket, under a bill approved recently by the state legislature. It still needs Gov. Rick Perry's signature to become law.

Big Brother is Watching

This is another classic example that Big Brother is Watching.

In Europe, especially Germany were drivers follow Traffic Rules to the letter - they have been using traffic cameras - yes Traffic Cameras for years.
They have cameras all over the place to catch speeders.

Anyway, I got caught by a Traffic Camera before deploying to Bosnia - and the ticket was waiting for me when I got back - a nice Welcome Home Gift. Result - a $120.00 fine, expensive by German standards, and I almost lost my Drivers License for 6 months.

Point - speeding and running traffic lights is a serious offense in Europe and eventally we may see these fines comming here. Did we ever think that Traffic Cameras/Red Light Cameras would be used?

Mabey they are doing this

Mabey they are doing this because they have a large number of unpaid tickets or they cannot locate people. That will be a suprise when you go to re-register you vehicle. $75 extra please.
