Icon for poi

Hallo again.
I have anoyher question an if this is a common question that has been asked before, maybe you can show me the direction for some threads. smile

I am working with Extra poi loader and have a gpx file that is almost done, every poi has a description and a link to a picture and i am happy with it.

Now i want to make my file better and on my wish-list number one is: Icon on the map in my garmin, i dont now if its possible or not and thats why i ask.

So if there is a way of gettin an icon for my pois in extra poi editor or perhaps in poiloader please let me know.

best regards jocke (still a baginner)

Very possible to do, and in

Very possible to do, and in fact quite easy. We have a whole library of icons available at the icons link at the top of the page. Simply download the desired icon and rename it to [filename].bmp, where [filename] is the name of the POI file. Thus, if your POI file were named "poifile.gpx" you would want to rename the icon to "poifile.bmp".

If you want to create your own icons that can be done in a graphics program like Photoshop. There should be a tutorial in the learn tab at the top of the page that should be of assistance.

Icons located.

Thanks, i will have a look and select a couple of them i think.

But where should i put the link for the icon in extra poi loader so i can see the icon on the map in my gps?

I am trying to learn how Extra Poi Editor works, great program and i think that i am the limit at this point.

I will have a look for the tutorial. smile

Bmp

If you plan to use one bmp file for the complete gpx file.Just locate in the same location as gpx file with same name except extension like
Strephon_Alkhalikoi posted.Example.

My pois

Cracker Barrel.gpx
Cracker Barrel.Bmp

If the plan is to link several Bmp files you will need to link them to the file using Extra Poi Editor.

1.Load file to Extra Poi Editor
2.Double click on one of the single pois
3.You will see the link info on right side near bottom.
4.You also have the replace all option under edit on the first page once the pois load to EPE.
5.If you plan to put in alerts see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/28521

The plan was to get one

The plan was to get one icon/poi on the map only, and i can use the same bmp for every poi, but now the plan also include an icon for the file.

For the file i see no problem with an BMP-file next to my gpx. should be a thing i can handle.

It can be a little harder to put a BMP in the field for links, the file containes 2900 pois and there is probably 2500-2600 pictures already with their links in the field, so i cant use the "replace all" i think.

Well, i will make a small file for testing and if i like to have icons on the map its just a matter of work.

Alerts is also something i want to experiment with, i have not thought much about it, thanks for the link.
