How to get icons

I noticed that as I'm driving on my 2597, there are icons that show gas, food, etc. On some of these, there are custom logos so I know what brand of gas, what restaurant, etc. is the one near me. Is there a way to get more logos and apply them to these POIs? Obviously an exhaustive logo pack would be too big, but even if I can get just a few for my favorite places to eat would be good!

Yes and no

What you are seeing is what is built in to the map and can't be changed. You can, if you haven't already, add your own custom poi's and icon bitmaps. Start with the "learn" tab in the upper right corner.

It would be nice

if we could turn those default icons off without affecting the icons on our POIs.

I also have the 2597 and just got back from a short trip.I was impressed on the number of icons that showed on the map when in route to a location. This is from Garmin help.

Most automotive devices will only display icons on the map for your saved Favorites or custom Points of Interest (POI) files that you may have installed. To view the custom POI icons, you will need to zoom in the map to 200 feet or closer. The preloaded points of interest (restaurants, hotels, attractions, etc.) will not display icons on the map if they are not also saved favorites.

The device will show the POI icons on the map when it has started moving or is in an active route.

POI icons will NOT display on the map if your map view is set to either North Up or Track Up.

The zumo 350, dezl 760, RV 760, and nuvi 2405, 2407, 2408, 2505, 2507, 2508, 2707, 2708, 3400, 3500, 3507, and 3508 series devices will only display POI icons when you have that map layer selected. For more information on map layers, view the article What are map layers and how do I use them on my automotive device?

I was going to ask the same question.is not all the time that my Gps it show me gas station icon bank, cvs store ect. My question is why I travel the same road one way and those icon they show on my gps.I may drive on my way back and they do not show. why is that? and they is a way to make those neat icon show all the times.?

Does it make any different if I have my gps set up on a destination .or just cruising with out a final destination enter on the unit.

Thanks.

Most likely it is that the receiver zooms to different zoom levels when traveling in different directions. Try zooming in when the icons are not present and see if you can view them. Zoom out when they are visible and they should vanish.

It could also be.

It also might have to do with the Geo-location of the POI.

I don't think the GPS would care to not show the icon b/c it is across a divided highway, but it shows POI's "on your route". Let's say the limit is 200 feet and the POI is a QT gas station. If the POI geo-coordinates are at the driveway to turn into the gas station, it might show from both directions. If it is at the pump, it is farther away from the opposite lane. If it is at the store building, it might be close enough to show on the inside route but too far away to show from the opposite lane.

It Would Be Nice

If you can figure a way to turn off the default Icons, please let me know, thanx.

Should be easy to turn off the default icons:

Settings - Map & Vehicle - Map Layers and then uncheck the Places along the road entry - Save.

Note, however, that this turns off the default built in icons as well as the custom POI icons you may have displaying.

Old Honda Could Do It

I drove a 2006 Honda Odyssey with OEM built-in GPS that let you selectively add/subtract icons by category. Was a nice feature.
