Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? – August 2013

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Oklahoma

Went to Oklahoma to visit relatives and take care of some real estate business.

We have decided the Garmin is a better GPS than the Rand McNalley RVND 7720. The RVND is nice to have for other things it does, however.

I do like the large size screen size for use in a motorhome.

Stuill chuggin' on down south from Anchorage...

3k miles, my Garmin performed well .. I however did not. I followed the wrong turn near Moran, WY, and ended up in Jackson rather than Dubois (didn't have a GPS mount for my motorcycle, was "memorizing" directions -- haha).

Difficult route

Made my way from Headquarters, ID to Superior, MT. There are only two bridges to cross the North Fork of the Clearwater River and the routing function showed backtracking 25 miles in the wrong direction. A local camper with a NF map saved the day. Got the routing fixed and was on my way. Only had 2 gallons of gas left when I got to Superior. CLOSE...

Went from Ohio to Texas

To see the grandkids. Great trip. My garmin had routed me off of I-44 in MO but did not give me any reason like a traffic warning. I ignored it and 2 minutes later was in stop and go construction traffic for 40 minutes. Normally I stay on the interstate so I assumed it was a glitch on the garmin. Next time I will try the detour.

Sears Outlet Store

Rented a truck from Home Depot and picked up a treadmill from a Sears Outlet store in DE. Avoiding sales tax, and saved quite a bit on top of that, BTW. Google Nav app got us there and back without a hitch. If only it could have helped in moving the treadmill into the house!

Back to college!

Took our daughter, a roommate, and a small caged rodent pet back to college this weekend, a 6 hour drive each way.

Since I've made the drive before, I had waypoints already set for lunch (In-N-Out Burger in Santa Rosa), and gas (scenic downtown Willits).

The drive was as the best are, scenic and uneventful, at least for the humans. Alas, the rodent did not enjoy the ride as much -- acceleration, and particularly lateral acceleration, is not something small rodents usually encounter. Small rodents riding in Mini-Coopers on windy roads will definitely encounter lateral acceleration! And when they do, they will let you know, eau de startled rodent...
