RandMcnallyTND720 No GPS Signal

so I had this problem and I would like to share it with you all. I bought a Rand McNally TND720 and I love it until one morning I woke up and it was not receiving and gps signal. I couldn't get it to see where it was at so I shut it off. when I parked for the night I was getting ready to return it. I turned it on on my way into the pilot. surprise it worked. plus they wouldn't exchange it because I didn't have the box or receipt. so I chalked it up to heavy cloud coverage. then again I had this issue. this time I decided to buy another and do the swap but when I got the new one out it saw no gps signal either. so the lady brought the new one back in the store and we called McNally and spoke to a guy. he asked one question. do you have a dash cam. yeah just bought it. turn it off he said. so we did and instantly 11 satelites were being seen. guy from McNally said they don't know why. so I wanted to figure it out. I had the cam on for quite some time now and why did it only do it twice. so I turned the cam back on to do investigating. the gps still saw the satelites. why what did I do to make the cam block the signal. the motion sensing rec option I turned it on and all sat were not seen like they fell out of the sky. I turned it off and they came rite back. I still use the cam but I don't use the motion rec option and haven't had a problem since.

it sounds as if

It sounds as if your dash cam is generating enough interference that it reduces your GPS' ability to lock onto satellites. Look to see if there is an FCC sticker on the dash cam. It should have the letter F with two C's one inside the other. If it's Chinese, it probably doesn't have one or at least a valid registration number. You can check the registration number on the FCC web site http://transition.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid/help.html

If it's a bogus registration number, print out the page display from the web and return the device for a full refund. Then call or send a note to the FCC telling them what you bought and where. They'll handle it from there.

Dash Cam

Mount the TND below, not next to the Dash Cam. In other words, both cannot be on the same Plane. The TND should be lower than the Dash Cam.
