Nuvi 2595LM Not Accepting POI Uploads

Ok, another newbie question/problem. I have been reading and studying the FAQ's tutorials, etc. and have gotten familiar with my unit's file system and structure. I have installed and tried to use GPSbabel, Extra POI Editor, POI Edit 2007 and POI Loader. I have also tried to create a small POI file is CSV format to load into the 2575. This file has 8 properly formatted POIs in it. Now the problem, when I use POI Loader, with the newly created CSV file in its own folder and point POI Loader to it, I can't tell if POI Loader uses it because it loads a much larger file (2k versus 42k) file from somewhere else in the folder structure that contains the original file that my small POI file was created from and loads it instead.

I would like to have a discussion on what I am missing in loading and using the POI Loader. I have looked at the available tutorials and FAQ's and none touch on this subject in enough detail. Are there other places to check out or advice from you pros that I can tap into?

Ok here we go

Welcome to the site.

There is a Getting Started button in the upper right of this page right under POI Files. It is worthwhile visiting this page.

To make navigation easy, most browsers provide the following option. When you want to follow a link - but still keep your current page open - you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you left-click on a link. That action will open a new "Tab" in your browser up on the "Tab" bar. When you then left-click on that new "Tab", you will follow the link - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

So, using the "Getting Started" link, you might try the "Ctrl" - left-click sequence and then return here. You can return by either "X-ing" out of the "Getting Started" page (using the "X" on the "Tab" itself) or just left-clicking on the "Tab" for the page you are on right now.

Since you are new here, I encourage you to go through a couple of the Beginner Education FAQs.

The first link makes sure the settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.

The next link helps you make a backup of your GPS by attaching it to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup)

Now to the POI Loader question. What I want you to do is to make a brand new folder called "MyPOIs" on your C: drive. Then, in the "MyPOIs" folder, make a sub-folder. Maybe call it "TestPOI". Into that folder copy the .csv file with the 8 points. Do not put anything else in that folder right now (later we might want to put a .wav file and/or a .bmp file - but not now)

So - we have a folder - called "TestPOI" to which we can point POI Loader.

Hook up your 2575 to your computer and run POI Loader. Let it find your unit and continue till you get to the screen that asks "Please select the folder where the data files can be found". Use the "Browse" button to navigate to the "C:\MyPOIs\TestPOI" folder. Enter a name for this file like "FirstTry" or whatever you like. Units will be "Feet and MPH". Choose "Express (recommended)".

When you press "Next", POI Loader will read that file and SHOULD transfer "8" POIs to your unit.

Let us know how you do.
