Speaker Problems with Garmin 2495LMT

I have had my Garmin 2495LMT for less than three months and I am experiencing problems with the speaker. Most of the time it will work fine but other times I get a garbled voice and sometimes I get no sound at all; not even a ding when I turn it on.

Before I turn it back to Garmin for repair, I thought I would put it out there to the community just in case I missed something and someone can tell me how to fix the problem.

Speaker Failures

Since it is under warranty, I would recommend sending it back to the factory, however you might want to make a back-up of your favorites to transfer over to the refurbished unit they will send you, as it will have a clean memory.

Be also aware that this model as well as many other Nuvi models use the same type of USB receptacle that is prone to failure due to limited mechanical support to the printed circuit board. The refurbished unit may have a USB receptacle that has been weakened through use.

As for the speaker, what you describe are the typical symptoms of an intermittent voice coil. The speaker is defective and needs to be replaced. If the unit had a headphone jack, like the older models, you would be able to plug in a set of headphones and find out that the sound is perfectly normal in the headphones, proving that the speaker is defective.

I have had same problem with 3760LMT. Garmin first had me try a new base and then a new cable. Neither worked.
