Option

Sounds very interesting. It will probably be an option for when I get ready to buy a new GPS because the way Garmin is going, there's no way I'm buying a Garmin again.
Hope Garmin takes notice they are not the only game in town anymore and start improving their units and software instead of going backwards the way they have been for the past couple of years.
Kudos to Magellan!!!

It's ridiculous no one will

It's ridiculous no one will price match this because they say selling at this price is below Garmin policy. I wonder how Crutchfield is doing this?

You are right on that one.

You are right on that one. The new GO GPS line from Tom Tom look especially interesting, at first glance. But we will see if it is smoke and mirrors or if they are a major leap ahead of garmin in functionality.

They ship very fast and are first class operation and they will disclose right up front if the item is in stock. Have bought many items from them over the years and just bought the new Garmin vent mount from them a week of two ago and they were the cheapest source with free UPS shipping and no tax.

Other dealers are saying

Other dealers are saying Crutchfield is violating Garmin policy of selling below MSRP. Well I guess I've learned my lesson not to pre-order from GPSCity.com. They've done nothing to make their customers whole through their price match policy.

heart broken about 3597

Australian Karen voice is not compatible with the 3597.

Also when you are driving and your current speed exceeds the posted limit the edges around the current speed display turn red.

The unit is quicker in just about all areas and the screen is easier to see. You still have some reflections, but the new interface design helps a lot.

Comes with 8 gigs of internal memory, with about 2.4 gigs free still. My unit shipped with 2013.3 maps.

Best Buy has the 3597 in stock

Best Buy has the 3597 in stock and they are matching Crutchfields price.

Wow, only 2.4 gigs free? That tells me the OS, and features are growing a lot. I think my 3790 had 3.75 gigs free when new.

Out of Stock

Crutchfield is now out of stock on these. I decided to take the plunge on this as I just put in for time off at work. I love my Iphone App called MotionX and it's a great GPS but I don't want to use it for long trips.

My Local Best Buy and a few other local stores that sell these are also out of stock. They have a several week lead time on them.

I just put in an order at The GPS Store. I see that they had a place to put in a code so I did a google search for one and got another $20 dollars off. I used the code PARK20 if this will help any of you. I also bought the Garmin Portable friction mount for nuvi as well. Is there anything else I need to buy?

For all the people that have this new Garmin Nuvi 3597 unit do they use the Motorola plug for the Cigarette (Lighter) power cord. There is so sense on buying one if I can use my cellphone one.

Thanks for your time and help!

It may be faster, But...

Missing safety camera download capability from Garmin. Haven't used the POI loader for a while. I have become accustom to using the data base from garmin, plus the camera alert only notified you if the camera was in your lane\direction. Magnetic mount is nice, sound quality good and clear. Plus I like things spoken "turn in one quarter of a mile" not "in point 3 miles." Not sure about Smart link. Will post more later after a few days on the road

As far as I know the 3597 only comes with Lifetime Maps and Traffic so it will come with a Traffic Adapter/Power Cord. You don't need to purchase any additional power cord for your vehicle.

Birds eye view

The birds eye view is amazing with 3d buildings and landscapses. Also the HD traffic updates looks interesting. But $350!!!! is it worth it?

Does the traffic icon change color?
Does it keep "searching for service"?

I bought a Garmin

I bought a Garmin StreetPilot 2720 back around 2007-2008 and it was around $1200 dollars. I believe at the time I paid around $800 dollars thinking that was a fantastic deal. I have been every where with the GPS and places I would never had gone to without the unit. I just got mine at GPSCity with a $20 dollar off code.

My Streetpilot has life time maps that I bought for it a few years ago and it has paid for itself. I plan to keep my streetpilot and let friends use it if they go on vacation. I can no longer install the whole USA on this unit.

There is no traffic icon

There is no traffic icon like the 3590. Instead you have to touch the three lines in the lower right part of the screen to bring up traffic if you are not on a route. If there is traffic ahead it will pop up with the road icon on the right side of the screen telling you the distance and length of the delay. Not sure I said that correctly. It does not seem to be searching for service like my 3590.

You should be able to install all of North America to a SD card for use with the StreetPilot using MapInstall:

Best Buy will match

Best Buy will match Cruthfields price

Just FYI

I was somewhat irritated that I paid $379.99 for something that immediately dropped $30. I contacted my credit card, and although they have no price protection policy/benefit, they agreed to refund $30 to my card, given my history with the credit card company and the fact that the price dropped within a week of ordering.

Just FYI ... perhaps if any of you paid $379, you may be able to get some of the difference back via your credit card. The merchant wasn't willing to assist.

Does anyone know where in the settings to turn on/off real directions on the 3597 lmthd? Thanks.

Garmin Nüvi 3597LMTHD

I was just looking at the Garmin website and it looks like the three most expensive automobile navigators all have an MSRP $349.99. They are the Nüvi 3597LMTHD, 3490LMT, and 3590LMT. I actually only see a very few differences between the three of them.

To Jim1348: I got my 3597lmthd for 329.99 from the GPS store. List price was 349.99 and the coupon code I used was "Park20" and received $20.00 off.

Real directions

I got the 2797 which uses the same real directions as the 3597. At first I was skeptical about it but after a month or so,of use, I have to say it has proven to be a very useful feature and it does what is advertised. That is, makes the directions easier and more sensible to follow. A definite plus.

Just got my 3597LMTHD today. I copied the GPI file from my 3790 to the new unit and to my surprise I find that the icons attached to the Custom POI's show on the map screen at almost any zoom level. With the 3790 you had to be zoomed in a fair distance in order to see the icons. Here are a couple of examples

3597 feedback

Rather than repair my out of warranty broken screen 3490, I replaced it with the 3597. Driving through downtown Atlanta on the I75/I85 connector it navigates in one sequence rather than breaking it into 3 segments as the 3490 did. (It would give 3 separate mileages downtown to 3 different points along the route although going to a single destination). Both units have 2013.40 map installed. Also, lane assist is greatly improved especially the animation showing movement tracking for the lane you should be in. A lane assist error was corrected going northbound at I285 also.
On the downside Smart Link for the iPhone almost never syncs although the calling function is OK and EcorouteHD will sync fine. Overall I like the 3597 much better.

My 3597 has this issue at times when I connect it via usb, sometimes while connected it jumps from usb mode when I have it connected normally which prevents me from d/l any updates, etc when it is in map mode. I have to unplug it and start over. Anyone having this issue/?

MODERATOR NOTE:
Here's what to do if POI Loader doesn't find your 3597
- on the GPS main menu screen, touch volume
- on the volume screen, touch and hold the upper right corner
- touch "MTP settings"
- touch "mass storage single session"

Nick, it sounds to me like an intermittent USB cable and/or connector issue. The first thing I would try would be to use an entirely different USB cable. Since the unit is new, I wouldn't suspect dirt/dust in the GPS's connectors but you never know. If it still does it with a different cable, try a different USB port on the PC, one preferably connected to the PC's mainboard (not on a USB hub or keyboard). Also see if you can reliably reproduce the issue with mildly jiggling the USB connector where it's plugged into the GPS. If you can reliably reproduce the issue at the GPS side of the connection, you may have a faulty USB connector on the GPS itself...either the conductors within the connector or where it's soldered to the GPS's mainboard.
