another case imho for a ticket cam

I was leaving a plaza today, in the left turn only lane.

Guess what? There is a woman in a white Nissan, TO MY LEFT, with her right signal on.

She is on the wrong side of the traffic island, and had traveled the wrong direction for the length of the road leading to the plaza.

btw, a cop was there, he did not do anything. She ended up turning right across my path, and cut off the people who were legitimately making a right turn, who were to my right.

I know, inevitably someone is going to say, they find that hard to believe, it couldn't have happened. Put $20 up and I'll post pics. smile

A camera would simply take her plate, nice folks in AZ would review it, and she would get a summons. The cam does not get tired, lazy, or have better things to do like talk on his cell phone.

Sometimes

I've seen similar stuff too. Sometimes people make mistakes.

Oh boy

If you said 6 people did it...

on a dalily basis

this kinda thing happens all the time to me in a bunch of forms . just remember most drivers can not drive a cmv and would respect us a little more if they only realized that one axle of our truck weighs more than there whole car smile

all too common

Many people in cars don't seem to get it when driving around heavy-trucks, sometimes to their own peril.

red cam

Does anyone else have a problem with the out-sourcing of law enforcement for profit, which is what these red light cameras represent?

I do

I certainly think the Redlight and Speed cams should be abolished. I've paid 3 tickets now at the same camera. The first one I was actually going over the speed limit so I didn't really have an issue with it. The next 2, I KNEW the camera was there and I wasn't speeding. However, I got tickets anyway. The key to their scam is because most people can't take off work to fight it so they just pay it, like I did. I try to avoid the area now if at all possible.

once the problem is gone

Here's yet another real-life reason for cams:

http://laist.com/2013/04/23/road_rage_suspect_allegedly_ramm...

In a densely populated area, short of driving like a granny, there are daily incidents. I saw a dump trunk blow a light today--was not a near miss, people are smart enough to stay put on green, when a dump truck is going through a red. But again, there is no reason for the truck to change its behavior, short of a cam.

Other alternatives to cams

It would be far better to have police officers actually present than to have cams. Just because you see little traffic incidents, doesn't mean that cams are the solution.

necessary evil

I'm not saying everybody has to be a goodie two-shoes all the time, and honestly, I feel it's inconvenient to drive in DC and MD. Because you almost have to drive perfectly, and esp. in DC, you will get a hefty fine for a minor mistake.

Ever see a CMV driver on a Nextel phone? That is prohibited by the fmcsa ruling, but they do it anyway. Just like running red lights. It's a bad habit. Doesn't make drivers bad people, just people who have bad habits. We simply do not have enough law enforcement officers to break those bad habits, but we can certainly install cams which don't even cost a municipality anything at all. And when the revenue goes down to $0 because the bad habits were broken, it still doesn't cost anything so it's a win-win.

To be honest with you a camera would have done nothing in this circumstance. If she was on the wrong side of the island there would not have been a sensor to activate the camera.

Abolish All Cameras

Speed, Red Light, SLR.

Okay, keep the SLRs. grin

Highway Off-Ramp Cameras

Has anyone noticed the highway off-ramp camera installed on I-95 in Central Florida?

Are they speeding related or just watching who is entering the area?

There are quite a number of traffic cams that DOT uses to monitor traffic flow. Quite a number on I-4 around Orlando and some in the Daytona area. Can that be what you're seeing?

probably true

There is a surveillance system in this plaza. Quite possibly it recorded what this woman did. That's not going to break her bad habit, however. maybe if she harmed someone PD could fall back on the DVR.

Right?

I saw someone make a right from a left lane yesterday. I couldn't help but laugh.
