It appears to me that Maps on SD card load Faster

This latest Map download resides on the SD memory card, instead of the Nuvi 660 drive. (It wouldn't have fit otherwise)
My gut feeling tells me that the Garmin boots faster with Maps on SD card than it did when maps resided on the Garmin drive....

I used a Mode 4 card....

Has anyone else noticed this ?

Also a word of warning....
My Canon HF 200 camera, until it was sent back for a firmware upgrade, would not accept a Mode 10 SD card... (It recognized Mode 10 as Mode 0).... I only have one Mode 10 card, and it presently has video on it... So I'm reluctant to put it in the NUVI... but there is a possibility that it may not be recognized.

Therefore, if anyone try's a Mode 10 SD card, would you post here your findings?

Class 10 SD.

I have class 10 SD cards in both my nuvi's (755T and 855) and install maps on the SD. I don't notice much difference on the 755T, but the 855 is definitely slower in map redraw/refresh with the maps on SD. It is still usable, but a little sluggish.

So I did a test...
From Power On Press to Password request, is 21 seconds on my 660 with Maps on Mode 4 SD Card.
Unfortunately, I have no reference to the time it took before the Maps to SD card, and, it would have been smaller maps... Apples to Oranges comparison.

I copied the /Garmin directory of the Mode 4 SD Card to a hard drive, and then copied it back onto a Mode 6 card....

Power On Press to Password request is still 21 seconds, but WOW!! Map Zooming In and out is Visibly FASTER, compared to the same actions using a Mode 4 SD Card!!!

I'm going to leave the Mode 6 SD Card in the 660 and the Mode 4 card will be a backup Mapset.

I am truly Amazed how this site has helped me!

Same Manufacturer?

Ae the class 4 and class 6 cards from the same manufacturer? That may make a difference.

I only own SanDisk cards that are genuine, there are many fakes out there especialy on Ebay.
Whenevr I buy a SanDisk SD card I go to their site and register the card using the serial #.
If the card is fake I'd imagine it won't register and time to return it.

Nuvi 2460LMT 2 Units

Used it for 3 hours today.

Used it for 3 hours today. Worked great.

Both cards were from local computer company. Micro-Center.

Both zoom in & out much quicker than the Garmin did.

One's a 4GB Mode 4 and other is 8Gb Mode 6.
I took them both out and timed a large read to a raid array, and the 8 (mode 6) is just a tad faster than the 4 (Mode 4)...... So you're right... maybe I just wanted it to be faster.....

But overall---I'm very pleased with the operation...

I have an 8 gig Class 4 card that memory tests as a Class 10. A Dane Electric I bought at The Source.

A very nice surprise!

My video disk bandwidth

My video disk bandwidth tests don't work with USB drives... What program did you use to test SD Cards?
