Deleting favorites in 1490

I downloaded the low clearance files, Somehow they were put in MY FAVORITES. Which filled it.
Is there someway to delete all these LOW CLEARANCE files out of My Favorites instead of doing it one by one. I want to keep my origional favorites, just rid the low clearance ones.
I will be at it for days.
Thanks

It sounds like you copied the Low Clearance POI file directly to your nuvi. What you needed to do to make them Custom POIs (accessed via WhereTo/Extras/CustomPOIs), is to download the files to a folder on your computer, then use Garmin's POI Loader to load them as Custom POIs to your nuvi:

Luckily, from another thread, I know you already have and use Mapsource on your computer.

As I think about your problem now, unless someone comes up with a better idea, my thought is to use Mapsource or BaseCamp (programs on your computer) to receive your 1490's complete list of Favorites. Then I'd use the program and manually and individually delete all the low clearance locations but keep your other favorites. Then I'd wipe all Favorites from the nuvi. Finally, I'd again use Mapsource or BasCamp to transfer your Favorites (the new non-low-clearance set) from the computer back to your nuvi. I expect this will still take some time, but I expect that deleting a slew of Favorites will go more quickly on a computer with Mapsource than by trying it on the nuvi itself.

Approximately how many original Favorites do you have? If a small number, one option would be to simply wipe all Favorites from the nuvi, then over time recreate the ones you want to have. This is not a good idea if you have many Favorites to be kept or if some of them are a long ways off.

sorry

There is no way to speed up the process. The best solution is to just erase all your favorites as what you can see using your computer is a copy of the file stored in a protected area of the 1490.

You can take a copy of the file (current.gpx), store it on your computer and then edit it. After using the unit to delete all favorites, you can then copy the edited file back to the GPX folder on the 1490 where it will be copied back into the protected location and added to any data that is already there.

Thanks, I had 20 or so

Thanks, I had 20 or so favorites.
I will try using Basecamp.
When deleting all from favorites, just exactly how?
From the Recently found is easy, but I see no option like that on favorites

Easy

Tap Tools>My Data> Delete Favorite(s)

Perhaps this will work

Let's hope that you hooked your 1490 to your computer and made a copy of [nuvi]\Garmin\GPX\current.gpx file. While there, I hope you deleted the "Low Clearance.gpx" file that was mistakenly put there (no need to waste that space).

The fact that "Low Clearance.gpx" is a .gpx file would have normally caused a lot of problems in trying to extract "Favorites" from the overloaded current.gpx file. However, the "Low Clearance.gpx" seems to start almost all of its entries with the clearance height. That gives us a possible way out - the fact that the heights are "10'", "10' 11"" etc

Once current.gpx is on your computer, open it with EPE (if you need help with EPE, then look at
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/38068 and
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/33782)

From the menu, Tools > Sort by Name (or just Ctrl-N). Now save the file using a name like "currentsorted.gpx" and close EPE.

Open "currentsorted.gpx" in Word (or Notepad++ being my preference). You will see blocks like

<wpt lat="42.712178" lon="-71.179959">
<time>2011-08-11T00:50:58Z</time>
<name>10'</name>
<extensions>
<gpxx:WaypointExtension>
<gpxx:Address>
<gpxx:StreetAddress>99 Manchester st</gpxx:StreetAddress>
<gpxx:City>lawerance</gpxx:City>
<gpxx:State>ma</gpxx:State>
<gpxx:PostalCode>01841</gpxx:PostalCode>
</gpxx:Address>
</gpxx:WaypointExtension>
</extensions>
</wpt>

Everything between a <wpt> and </wpt> represents one entry in the file.

Unless you have named a favorite with a number, you can safely delete all blocks down to the one that has a name of "<name>9' 9" Clear (Approx)</name>"

There are two more Low Clearance blocks to be deleted. They will contain
<name>Low Bridge</name>
and
<name>Train Bridge-Low Clearance</name>

Now save his file and then open it back up in EPE. Once it has opened, double click on the first entry to open the "POI edit" dialog of EPE. Down at the bottom right, there are "Prev POI" and "Next POI" buttons. use them to make sure that only your favorites are left.

Make any changes necessary and save the file.

Delete your favorites on your 1490.

Copy the currentsaved.gpx file to [nuvi]\Garmin\GPX\ and you should be back in business.

OK thanks they are

OK thanks they are gone.

just replace some favorites now, time I did some house cleaning anyway.
