I installed the update to my wife's iPad 2 and it was always pretty fast before that. Now it is even faster .

Speed, security, and battery life as well--

You have to dig for the information, but there were also a large number of security updates, some speedups, and some battery life improvements as well.

Another change with iTunes 11, if you have multiple devices, you only need to download the updater once, rather than once per device in earlier versions of iTunes.

Can I get some feedback from 4th gen (introduced in September 2010) iPod Touch users?

I'm still using the latest version of iOS 5. Afraid to go to version 6 due to speed issue.

When I bought 4th gen iPod Touch in November 2010, everything was fast. It has become very sluggish lately and I don't even have many apps (approximately 15-20 3rd party apps).

Not much difference

Not much difference that I notice but everything is OK on my iPod Touch 4G

lots of bugs squashed!

I've got a 4th gen touch that sits in my Mini.

The upgrade to iOS 6 didn't slow things much, and speeded up some aspects (Safari, for example). It also squashes a lot of nagging bugs present in iOS 5, including some HTML bugs that really irritated me.

I had some of the same trepidations, is this going to make my device unusably slow, but I haven't looked back on doing the upgrade.

So iOS 6 on iPod 4th gen offers no speed improvement. Wish I could go back to iOS 4. It's now ridiculously slow (most of the time). When I touch something, nothing happens for 3-5 seconds. Touch another thing... 3-5 seconds delay before it responds.

Btw, what HTML bugs are you referring to?

6.1 good on my iPod Touch 4G

I updated to 6.1 on my 32GB iPod yesterday. Everything is running smoothly so far... so that makes 3 positive feedbacks smile

The upgrade from 4.3.3 took about 30 minutes then another 40 minutes to restore 16GB of music/apps.

Good to know it works smoothly on your device but wait... you go from 4.3.3 to 6.1? You don't see any performance hit? Would you mind giving another feedback after a couple of weeks using iOS 6?

HTML bugs--

There were a number of small formatting bugs for example involving text sizes under different conditions. One caused text to be rendered at a smaller size than it should be. Not major things, but an irritation (for some).

It's a long story why I was still on 4.3.3... grin

Mostly use the iPod for music and FaceTime. There are some 100+ apps on it that I use less frequently.

Will check back on this thread in a couple of weeks.

Thanks WAASup, I appreciate it. I'd like to see if you're going to notice any performance degradation with iOS 6.

Well I upgraded to 6.1 then jailbroke both my iPad and iPhone. Everything is much quicker than previous. Not sure if it's the new iOS or the evasiOn jailbreak that's making it run so good.

Now on iOS 6.1.2

chewbacca wrote:

Things are still good on iOS 6. Yes, on my older iPod 4G it's generally a little slower than iOS 4.

I updated to 6.1.2 from 6.1.1 about a week ago. Will be interesting to see if the system usage stats show any differences.

Thanks for the update. Wish I could go back to iOS 4 (without jailbreaking).

Ever since this last update, my phone fails to find my wifi too often. In exactly the same location where it got at least 2 wifi bars, it now reverts to cell service most of the time.

My iPhone 5 and my iPad are both doing well since the update

I've not had any issues with the operating system updates. Have also been trying the new version of Google Maps for the iPhone.

I've updated my iPad 3 from iOS 5 to iOS 6.1.2 on Saturday and see how it goes before I update it on my iPhone 4 as I've heard about the battery issue.

I'm using 6.1.2 on my iPhone 4, and 6.1 on my iPad3 with no problems. I've since jailbroke both of them again without problems.

iOS 6.1.2

Get the latest update and go to evasi0n.com for jailbreak your ios device while you can. Apple will soon release a fix for jailbreak.

IOS 6.1.3

Updated, hope some looping problems with 6.1.2 that were killing my battery life disappear.

6.1.3

Saw no difference in battery life after 6.1.3 update on my iPhone4S - and am seeing no difference in my battery life on my iPhone5 on 6.1.3 from my 4S - take it off the charger in the morning... goes back on at bed time - I don't think my usage is out of line with what could be considered "normal".
