Nuvi 3790LMT voice commands

Well I decided to do a quick write up of the voice command structure for the 3790LMT Software V5.00.

The main screen that opens after giving the wake-up command is:
View Map; takes you to the map view.

Find by name: speak(Subway,McDonalds,HomeDepot...) there is also the Back and Exit comands. You then get a numberd list of what the unit thought you said. Say (1,2,3,...) or back, down,up,exit. If you picked a number you get a second numbered list with actual locations, address etc.. If you say one of the numbers then it will show the information and a map view. You then can say (Navigate,Back,Exit).

Find by catagory: speak(food,gas,shopping...) If you picked a number you get a second numbered list with actual locations, address etc.. If you say one of the numbers then it will show the information and a map view. You then can say (Navigate,Back,Exit).

Find Intersection: It first asks for a city in the state in which you are in, but you can also say (spell city, change state, province, spell postal code). After giving it a city it asks for first street. It may give you a numbered list and you can pick from it. It then asks for a second street. You may get a second numberd list for the second street choice. After picking you will get another list of possible intersections and directions of travel. After picking the correct intersection you then can say (Navigate,Back,Exit).

Recenly found: This brings up a numbered list of your recently found pois. Say a number and you then can say (Navigate,Back,Exit).

Go Home: jumps right to routing you to your home poi and jumps right to the main map.

Find address: It first asks for a city in the state in which you are in, but you can also say (spell city, change state, province, spell postal code). After telling it a city it asks for the house number. To move forward you either say(yes or clear). It then asks for street(you can say spell street). You then get a numbered list of streets and you choose one. After picking the correct address you then can say (Navigate,Back,Exit).

Find city: It first asks for a city in the state in which you are in, but you can also say (spell city, change state, province, spell postal code). After telling it a city it gives you numbered choices. Pick one you can Navisgate, back or exit.

Favorites: This brings up a numbered list of your favoites pois. Say a number and you then can say (Navigate,Back,Exit).

Stop Route: This cancels the route you are currently running.

Detour: If you are running a route this will detour you around your current street.

Volume: Say(10,20,...,100, mute)to set the volume level and then say back or exit.

Phone: Takes you to the phone functions. Have not used this yet.

Brightness: Say(10,20,...,100)to set the screen brightness level and then say back or exit.

Custom POI

Will it find locations on my Extras>Custom POIs?

I have not been able to find

I have not been able to find that function. You only get what is in the standard Garmin supplied pois.

Ditto for the 2460

I found the same result on my 2460. It's too bad that the newer voice recognition nuvis don't offer a voice command to reach Extras and Custom POIs. One can hope that this could be remedied by a future software update for our models.

At least my 2460 allows me to customize my home screen to include an Extras icon. I think we've found in another thread that other newer nuvis that offer home screen customization do not offer an Extras icon or any way to get to Custom POIs without the need to start with a Where To "tap."

Disappointed With Voice Command

My 2460LMT shows the same options as the 3790.
There is NO option for Extra's (POI's)

I am very disappointed with the voice command features on the 2460. I intended to promarily use it for my custom POI's and Favorites. Totally useless in my opinion. Since there is no option to speak a custom POI that rules that out, you must do it manually.
As we know the POI Factory's POI's are far more reliable than the Nuvi's built in.

As far as favorites go, also useless. If you speak "Favorites" it will bring up an option for the 3 closest favorites on the 2460, I beleive the 3790 has 4 (lines).
If you intend to go to the farthest favorite on your list, you must continually say "Down" to reach the next page with 3 (4) entries. If your destination is last on the list (farthest away) you may have to say "Down" dozens of times to reach that favorite if you have a large amount of favorites on your unit.

I find it easier just to use the touchscreen for both favorites and Extra's.

You do realize that this unit is almost out the door?
It's voice commands are straight forward. No extra poi functions and no incoming phone commands.
