Garmin Nuvi 2013 Lineup is Here at last!!

I see Garmin just released their 2013 lineup at last! Exciting. A 7" Nuvi for automobile use, previously seen only with other vendors or their dezl truck line. Very exciting. Looks like their shopping / comparison site hasn't quite caught up yet as clicking on features doesn't show all the devices. Nevertheless, you can see the overview of the new devices here: http://sites.garmin.com/nuvi/

I can't wait!

.

Here's an on-going thread.

At the bottom of that

page, I don't know if I would like the magnetic mount and associated connector. I guess we'll see what we'll see .

Sunset Policy

Hopefully Garmin will not invoke a Sunset Policy and force existing Garmin GPS's into early retirement.

It's time

to maybe think about an upgrade for my older GPS.

By The Time

I upgrade, I will be too old to drive.

A 7" Nuvi? I always wonder

A 7" Nuvi? I always wonder how large of a display will GPS's get.

Big

It looks bigger "in person"

2013 Models

Nothing to replace thr 3490 and if youi do a comparison of the 3590 and the 3597, you will note that while they may have added a few features, they removed some as well.

I much prefer the features that they removed over the ones they added.

I would not even consider the 2013 model.

sunset is relative

While Garmin may officially claim they no longer support such-and-such units, it wasn't too long ago that they released an update for the Nuvi 750, which had been "unsupported" for a long time already.

responsiveness of the new units?

I like larger displays, just hope they don't sacrifice responsiveness/usability in the process!

Display

The larger display looks nice.

They seem to do the same thing every generation

They seem to do the same thing every generation, they add some new features but take other ones away.

I found the same thing when the 3490 came out as the replacement for the 3790 and after comparing the two side by side I ended up going with the 3790 for the more detailed maps display.

Huge difference between a 7" and a 4.3" screen sized Garmin

I had a 7" Kenwood/Garmin in another vehicle I owned and took a photo comparing the 7" display next to a 4.3" display in the car just to show how much difference there actually is.

I was at CES this week and I really liked the 3597 selling for $399.00, the 5 inch screen and magnetic way it attaches to the base unit. So I will sell my 3490 as soon at this gets released in March or April

How did you get any heating or cooling from those HVAC vents?

Nuvi 3790LMT, Nuvi 760 Lifetime map, Lifetime NavTraffic, Garmin E-Trex Legend Just because "Everyone" drives badly does not mean you have to.

And what?

The Power of Your Voice

nüvi 3597LMTHD has the luxury of voice-activated navigation. Speak, and your device intelligently responds; your hands can remain safely on the wheel. Of course, you can also navigate using the touchscreen interface.

Ok so what does this mean? Does it mean that i can answer the phone with out having to push the units screen icon? I wish they would be more specific. ATM i still need to push a button on the steering wheel of my Truck. No issue with that.

I was very curious about how a 7" screen would fit in the confines of a vehicle. That thing is just absolutely massive.
Thank you for the comparison picture!!

Thanks, I'll be looking for it.

sale prices

Once you start seeing sale prices on a GPS you know it won't be long before it is discontinued. I got a 2594 for $179, and figure that is pretty close to the end for that line.

The screen sat far enough in front of the center vents

The screen sat far enough in front of the center vents that the air went over and to each side so never was a problem even in very hot weather. The screen has adjustments for both tilt and how far it projects in front of the head unit.
