How does the 2455LMT measure up

I just got my garmin 2455LMT from amazon for $120. I wanted a faster unit that will not take 4 minutes to figure out which way to turn from a parking lot after being turned on. My 1490T took way too long. My new 2455LTM seems to calculate long routes quickly. Does using a memory card slow a units performance? Map update took about 55 minutes. which was about what one would expect for a gb of data.

Also does the 2455LMT come with an internal antenna or will I need to use the power cord from the 1490T which has an antenna built into the power cord?

Antenna for what? GPS or traffic? All nuvi units come with a built-in antenna for GPS signals in the GPS unit's enclosure. It is NOT contained in the power cable.

The traffic receiver antenna is built into the traffic receiver power cord...assuming it *is* a traffic receiver. Traffic receivers are prefixed with GTM, for example GTM20.

A regular (non-traffic) power cord has NO antenna in it's power cord.

Speed

I have a 2595LMT, which, I believe, is pretty much the same unit as the 2455 except for the size of the display and some bells and whistles, such as Bluetooth and voice activation. I find it to be much faster than any of the 3 previous models I have (360, 765, 1390). We're using 1350s at work and it puts them to shame as well. I updated the maps in about 1/3 the time it took me to update my 765. I think you'll be pleased with your unit.

Hi, I suggest that you look

Hi,
I suggest that you look at the label that is on the back of the GPS itself (not the box) and if it says 2455LMT (with the "T") it may in fact have a built in traffic receiver.

Not So Sure

I believe you have that backwards, the unit will display 2455 and the box will indicate 2455LMT.

Pretty Sure

According to posts on other GPS sites Garmin has begun shipping GPS's (including the 2595) that have the traffic receiver built in. I recently bought a 2595 from Costco that came with the GTM-60 (HD) traffic receiver. The box says 2595lmthd. The unit itself says 2595LM. I have confirmed that the GPS does NOT have built in traffic receiver.
I was in Costco again yesterday they they have another Garmin model... 2555 or 2455 or something like that...
It has lifetime maps and traffic (not HD). The model number on that back of the GPS (visible with the Costco packaging) was 2_55LMT (WITH the "T").
While it used to be true that they didn't have a "T" on the GPS itself, that is no longer the case.

Labeling ?

You may be right about the newer units, but I'm also not sure either. I do know my 2460LMT has that model # on the box but the GPS shows 2460. I bought the unit from Amazon.

I wonder if the labeling on the Nuvi has something to do with units destined for Canada vs USA. I 'm not certain but I think at this time Canada does not have HD traffic available.

I know for a fact that BJ's Wholesale has some of its products made exclusively for them that have their own packaging and slightly different model #'s.
I recently purchased a Sony Blu Ray player from BJ's, the Sony model was BDP-S590, BJ's model # was BDP-BX59. The operators manual shows both model #'s on the cover page. I know Costco has the same policy regarding model #'s and packaging for them.

The only way to confirm for sure is to have somebody reply with a 2595LMT that purchased the unit other than the wholesale clubs.

My unit has a LMT

And the traffic icon shows on the screen. didn't get any list by route number when I press the button, but didn't have availability to play with the unit while in traffic. If I need a traffic receiver I have the cable from my 1490T. The unit is much faster, it calculated a trip to my Son's house while driving out of the garage. Looks like I got the right unit. Even my wife is pleased.

2555 LMT Units and Traffic

For the case of the 2555 LMT, one needs some sort of antenna, as a plain-vanilla mini-usb cable I have wired into my car results in the message "a traffic receiver accessory is required to receive live traffic updates".

I am trading email with Garmin over how to provision a cable that would be hardwired into the car, rather than an ugly cigar-lighter plug in, and I may have to resort to hard wiring a socket behind the dash, and cable-tying the Garmin cigar-lighter plug into it.

Not sure it is worth the trouble when the cell phone is dash-mounted directly below the Garmin, and can run Inrix or Google/Waze to display better traffic reports than Navtech would provide. The only problem is the hoped-for reroute because of traffic, but maybe that's my job.

Should have come with a charger cable

It should come with a power cord and charger unit that will have the traffic antenna built in. I have a 2555LMT and it is the newer style, which has the traffic receiver built into the GPS and it uses a TA-20 charger. Serial number for the 2555's with the built in traffic receiver begin with 2LQ. This may or may not be the case with the 2455's.

If it's an older model, it will likely be supplied with a GTM cable of some sort.

Did this not come with a charger? If so, what model number is the charger and what number/letter combination does your serial number start with?

Nuvi 2495lmt

Picked up a like-new 2495lmt for $20 at a recent garage sale and it came with a GTM 26 power/antenna cable., which is the same one used with the 1490t. Basically bought it for the backup cable which can be a bit pricey if bought new.
