Nuvi 50 screen not accepting touch input

It displays fine but touching anywhere on the screen does nothing. I remember my 250w had a switch that would disable the touch screen. Could something like that have happened here?

Here are some things to try as you wait for better advice...

If you don't have it yet, download your Owners Manual:

p4 suggests holding the power key for 10 seconds for a reset. That's worth a try.

p18 discusses Safe Mode. I doubt that you have a Safe Mode issue since the mode must have a way to be disabled--and if you can't get your tap screen to respond, you could never turn it off. I also think that when nuvis are in Safe Mode, the screen still responds with a popup saying it's in Safe Mode and you don't see that either.

Is your battery fully charged?

I wonder if holding your screen during startup would take you to a hard reset:

Is your nuvi 50 still under warranty? If a hardware or really unusual software issue, Garmin's Tech Support may be the only help--and certainly is the only help if a warranty exchange is needed.

Good luck and keep us informed of your progress. Let's hope some nuvi 50 folks can offer more specific advice from their experiences.

No Lock Mode

The new units don't have slide switches like on my 200W, and thus no lock mode. Thus your digitizer is likely defective.

Thanks for the responses

It looks like it's shot sad Hard reset doesn't work. Holding the power button for 10 seconds for reset didn't work. I'll take it up with Garmin's tech support. Looks like I'll have to use my phone's navigation (YUCK) for my xmas trip sad
