M S Streets&Trips

I have had a 1450 for almost two years and am just now starting to try to put things on it. Its overwhelming. This coming spring I'm going to Hawaii. I have all my POIs and such in my 2010 Streets&Trips. How do I transfer them to my Garmin? I do have Base Camp installed on my computer but do not know how to transfer. Or change extensions if needed. I tried to read the FAQs but nothing specific. Help

I should add that I have

I should add that I have always added addresses and POIs by typing them into the Garmin.

Forget about Streets and Trip and BaseCamp for loading Custom POIs to the GPS unit.

Read this instead. You will need to use Garmin's POI Loader software.

However, if you want to load Waypoints/Favorites to the GPS unit from BaseCamp, then simply use the "Send to Device" button in BaseCamp.

S&T Data Transfer to Garmin GPS

Many of the S&T versions have a problem generating a good GPX file. Most versions send a poorly formatted date expression that chokes the Garmin programs. The following will convert an S&T file to a GPX file. From the GPX file, you can load into BaseCamp or MapSource and send to your GPS device, which will put your POIs into the Favorites list, or you can use Garmin's free POI Loader to load the POIs into the Custom POI of the GPS.
1. Data>Export as a GPX file from S&T.
2. Use a text editor to repair or remove each "date" expression. Note the "date" expressions are surrounded by less than/greater than characters that this forum won't display.

[Select one of 3., 4. or 5. below]
3. In BC, make a New List Folder. Select that List Folder and Import the edited GPX file. Select the List that will have the same name as the GPX file and drag and drop into the GPS. Your POIs will be in the Favorites list of the GPS.

-or-

4. In MS, Open the GPX file. Send to Device and choose Waypoints, Routes or both. Your POIs will be in the Favorites list of the GPS.

-or-

5. Use POI Loader to read the GPX and send the POIs as Custom POIs to the GPS.

I'll have to read up more

I'll have to read up more about this. Thanks for the suggestions. When I finally get to it, this will take me a while to finish. For me, nothing is simple. Thanks again.

Just keep it simple.

Don't go overboard at first by trying everything. Get it to work first. Then you can add sounds and bmp (picture) files.
Also for sound your nuvi uses wav files and not mp3. For sound you need the correct sox.exe in the proper folder.

Come back for more questions if you need. We are more than willing to help.

delorme topo for the same purpose, I set up my trip exactly the way I want it, with gas, and rest stop export as a GPX file, import to BaseCamp, do a recalculate in BaseCamp, then export to my device(765) import on the garmin, then the trip is set up in custom trips.

Question

about inputs. Have not tried anything as yet. If I have a day trip set up in S&T like 'Maui day 1'. This has all the poi and such that we want for that day. And I do get it transferred to my Garmin. Will this show as stated and I can click favorites, 'Maui day 1' and it will show only the map, directions and poi for that day only(Directions and map)? That way we can have the trips sorted out by days and not have to look through all the other poi bunched together? I would have Maui day 1 etc, Big Island day 1, etc. One day at a time. I have inputted all this in S&T already and it took a long time. Trying to save a lot of time to get correct directions and maps to where we want to go. Thanks.
