Try plugging it into the computer and letting it charge for a couple of hours.

Thank you

I called and they were very helpful. Although I couldn't boot up by switching it on, he had me go to my car and put it in the cradle. It booted up and is good to go. Not sure what happened (either is he) but I am sure glad it is working. I was in a panic mode when I posted my comment. I love my 765t and would hate to start the research for another unit. Thanks again.

me too

I have the 765t too. I would hate for mine to quit. Was buggy when I first got it, but after more firmware updates, it has been wonderful. I have it chock full of POIs. Especially like the rest stops POI, where I can get alerted miles before I get there. Wish they still made this model. Oh well, progress goes on, whatever that is.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

I feel the same way too.

Did you get the rest stops POI from here. I would love to put that on my 765.

Next time

Next time this happens (hopefully never) hold the power button or slide it to the left (however you start the 7xx models) for at least one minute. This will often cure the problem of not being able to start any nuvi up.

Same with my 3490

I had the exact same thing happen with my 3490 the other day. I thought the battery might be dead so I plugged it into my USB with no luck. I then tried the cradle in my Edge and it came to life. The batteries showed fully charged so I have no idea what the problem was. My confidence level isn't real high right now. And it was not long after I did the map and firmware updates.

Rest Areas A Popular POI

The Rest Area POI is available here, very helpful when traveling.I set my alert to 1 mile, you can increase it if you like.

In the future, the next time you decide to update your maps, DON"T use My Dashboard to do it since many people have problems with that method.
Better to use "My Maps" after you sign into your account.

sounds like your power button didn't work

You powered it on by applying DC power, rather than use the battery, from what it sounds like.

I've had it both ways, can't power on, can't shut off (shut off by draining the battery).

imho it's some sort of software bug. What they suggested is a work around, but not a fix.

HOLD THE POWER BUTTON

Down for about 30 seconds and see what happen.

SD card

And remove SD card (if installed) in device. I had problem with it, apter firmware update. GPS didn't turn on, but when I removed SD card it started fine. After reinserting this same card it was still working. So I guess, that when you are updating firmware then don't do it with SD card installed. And if you have to do firmware and map update, do firmware first, than restart device to working state and do maps update. Do not do cumulative updates (even if Garmin software allows it), as it is hard to tell what will happen.

Garmin used to publish firmware for some models (including 855, not sure about the 765) that was very useful for me when my GPS crashed. It was a very slow process, but was able to restore the firmware via preboot mode. Unfortunately I don't have those files (or directions) anymore and Garmin keeps it well hidden. But it is out there.
