upgrade GPS

It's time to upgrade my nuvi 660 to a new unit. I like the 2460, but most of the units online are refurbished. Is there a problem with this unit? Are refurbished unit good as new, or better. Any other units that might be better?
Thanks

I recently bought one

I recently bought a refurb 2460LMT (through Best Buy) and it arrived no different from a new one other than the packaging of the components.

I looked into reviews and discussions on the model before buying and found only great news of the model itself.

It's your choice of desiring lifetime traffic but I very strongly suggest only buying a lifetime maps unit because this is a model you'll keep for a long time.

If problems or slowdowns do exist at some point, you may want to turn off a couple of the newer feature like trafficTrends and myTrends. Right now, I'm experimenting with enabling both of these feautures and things are working. But if issues arise, I'll disable them.

refurbs work for me

I haven't had a problem yet with refurbished units. I've gotten mine from ebay sellers with current positive feedback.

unless you have to have the latest and greatest, they are a good way to go.

bought a refurb 3790LMT from Walmart back in April for $150

I bought a refurb 3790LMT from Walmart back in April for $150 and when it arrived it looked just as new as any brand new Garmin I have owned. Even all the accessories right down to the manual were brand new in their sealed packaging. The only difference was the box was blue and white.

Worked great and have had no problems with it of any kind. Best Garmin I have ever owned.

Came with the same warranty from Garmin as a brand new one does and had no trouble with getting the lifetime maps. Just downloaded the 3rd update last night to map 2013.30.

660 to 855 to 3490

Had a 660 for a number of years and was happy with it. Got a 855 when the touch screen failed on the 660. The 855 was buggy and I lost it in a motorcycle accident last year, but it had features the 660 didn't have. Replaced it with the 3490 I have now. Side by side to a 660 I like the 3490 better, but it's not perfect either. The 2460 is very similar to the 3490 feature wise, with lower display resolution and a lower price. If your 660 still works and you don't need the additional features I'd say save your money and play the waiting game to see what else comes along. The 660 has been the most solid GPS for me, always gets me there with no fuss and the routing engine is solid. The 3490 does some strange stuff at times, going off a interstate to put you right back on it an exit later. But the 3490 is a nicer toy and ultimately more helpful in my opinion, probably the same for a 2460. I have no experience with refurbs, but if they guarantee it, why not.

2350 lmt

Been using a 2350 lmt with the safety cam subscription, and it does the job. The first one froze up to the point where it could not be reset until the battery ran out. The 2nd hasn't had any trouble. I think these bread and butter units are workhorses. They don't come with a case, they are thicker, not made of glass, and occasionally even with the latest map take you around in circles (esp in nyc). But for the most part, except for traffic, they work well. No need anymore to spend more than $150-$170 for a unit imho....you can get a 2360 lmt for $139.98, and you're good for 4 years or more (when the screen dies out)....

Which lighthouse

litehous,

Which lighthouse is that in your profile picture? Is it Currituck NC, Ponce Inlet FL, or some other one?

I've been to both of them and they look very similar.

litehouse

The picture is from Ponce Inlet FL. I've been to both and the Currttuck is more yellow and is brick.

I have recenlty been to the Ponce Inlet lighthouse and didn't even notice that it wasn't brick. I just assumed all lighthouses were brick (at least traditional looking ones like Hatteras, Currituck, Bodie Island, etc.) Unfortunately my trip to Ponce Inlet lighthouse was rained out so I couldn't climb it, but I got a raincheck and will return again soon, I'm only a few miles away in Orlando.

Lighthouses

I'm glad we toured and climbed several lighthouses a few years ago enroute to Florida. There are two pairs of legs that can't do that now.

We still have a 660 in

We still have a 660 in service, and it's a good GPS that has only required a new battery installation and updated maps. We also have a Nuvi 765T and Streetpilot 2820, all discontinued.

I believe the 2460 is now discontinued as well. Garmin retires good GPS models after a relatively short run. What features are most important to you? For me, routing, bluetooth, are right up there, but lane assist, and motorcycle features also come into play.

Take a look at Walmart

It has been posted already but I want to add that Walmart is also a very good online source for refurb'ed Garmins.
