Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT

Started having problems with this unit almost immediately. I attached it to my computer to register with Garmin and Garmin could not locate the device. The unit had frozen and I could not get it to power on. After about 15 minutes, it finally booted up. The next day, I tried again to register it and again, it froze up. I tried and tried to get it to power up - to no avail. I requested a return label from Amazon.com then, after about 30 minutes, I tried the unit again. This time it booted up. I connected it to my PC and, using Garmin's WebUdater software, located a firmware upgrade. The upgrade notes indicated that one of the corrections in the firmware was to cure the freezing up problem when the unit was powered off. I downloaded and installed the firmware upgrade and it seemed to solve the problem. I called Amazon.com and told them I would keep the unit after all. The only thing I'm really having a problem with, now, is the voice command find address function. The unit simply does not understand what I'm trying to say 9 out of 10 times when I speak an address. It does seem to handle saved locations pretty well, though, since they have been assigned a name and it understands the name much better than an address. Another issue, though not critical, is that when connected to my PC, Windows does not recognize it as a disk drive (although it does show it as a device so that it appears in Windows Explorer when looking at the drop downs under My Computer), so I can't load custom POIs directly to it. I'm going to get a Micro SD card for it, which should solve the problem. Right now, I'm simply copying the poi files from my 765 and pasting them to the 2595, which seems to get the job done. This is my 4th Garmin (I have a 350, 1390T and a 765T). I have enjoyed every one of the units I have owned and am looking forward to using this unit on a trip.

MTP > MS

Your nuvi uses MTP. You will need to switch to Mass Storage (MS) mode.

Thanks!

Thanks, CraigW. This did the trick!

Finally!

I think I've finally got this unit functioning the way I want it to. As stated previously, I had to upgrade the firmware to version 7.2 in order to keep it from crashing. Thanks to CraigW, I found that I had to convert it to Mass Storage mode in order to properly load POIs. When my custom POI sound files didn't work, I searched files on this site and found that the unit doesn't play MP3 files, so I had to convert them all to .WAV. They now function properly. After all the work, the unit now functions beautifully! I'm really enjoying all it's features. I only wish there had been some documentation that came with it so I would have known about the above issues. That not withstanding, I heartily recommend this unit (after the adjustments are made).

Good to hear all's well
