Current.gpx File Shrinking

When I lost my 465t in a fire, I decided to get the Dezl. Luckily, I had a fairly recent backup of my Favorites which I was able to copy to the Dezl. This file - current.gpx - was 2.5 MB when I copied it over.
It turns out that, inexplicably, the Dezl cannot search for Favorites along the active route! So what I figure I have to do is, as I add new Favorites, every once in a while, convert the Current.gpx file into POIs, and reload them into the device. Annoying, but straightforward.
But here's my question: Since loading that original 2.5 MB Current.gpx file, it has gotten progressively smaller, even though I am adding Favorites. I have deleted a few doubles, but over all, I've added more new ones than I've deleted. The file is now 1.8 MB. At first I thought that there might be a file-size limit, hence the archive files. But the research I've done seems to indicate these files have a different purpose.
So, why is my Faves file getting smaller? Am I losing data? I have so many Favorites that it would be difficult to notice anything missing.
Current.gpx
contains more than just Favorites. It also stores any custom routes you have saved and the accumulated trip log. So when you imported your favorites, you probably imported only a small portion of the data you had in current.gpx. Probably most of the 2.5 MB was the trip log, and that can't be transferred to another unit.
The size of current.gpx on your active unit can shrink in size if you go in and delete the trip log.
