Problem with waypoints on Basecamp

I have a bunch of duplicate waypoints on Basecamp part of them have no position, it comes up as 0,0. I don't seem to have them on the Nuvi 3790, only when connected to Basecamp. I've tried to delete them but they don't stay deleted, then Basecamp fails and I have to re open it. They are back when I do. I could go thru and use copy paste and change each one but there are to many for that. I don't use Basecamp a lot so I could just ignore it and not use it but I'm curious if there's a way around this. Would there be a file on the Nuvi that's bad? This problem has existed for a while and I haven't used it but with the new update I was hoping something would change.

GPX files

I have both Current.gpx and Current1.gpx files in the GPX file in the main file on my 3790. Could that be the source of the duplicates? I also see that I have a duplicate set of waypoints going backwards on the device starting with somewhere like 3000 miles away and ending with HOME almost 6000 miles away. It looks like if I delete the far away points the correct close one disappears also.

I hope someone can help me with this, I'm confused and I thought I knew how this thing worked. I sure don't want to be forced to dump all my favorites, I'd never get them recreated. Is there some way to get a spreadshoot of these files, then I could recreate them.

Current.gpx

The first thing I would do is make a backup of both current.gpx and current1.gpx. Then make a copy of each file to work with (call it something like test.gpx and test1.gpx)

Then use something like turboccc's EPE program to open each test file and see what you have in them.

Edit: oops ... I see you have a Mac so EPE will not work. I am not a Mac user, so I don't know if there is a general purpose gpx editor available for the Mac. Hopefully some of the Mac guru's can help you out.

Not a MAC guy but

You can try connecting the GPS to your MAC.
- Go to the GPX folder on the GPS.
- Move all *.GPX files off of the GPS to your MAC.
- Do the same on the SD card if you have any GPX files on it.
- Disconnect and reboot your GPS.
- All your Favorites should still be there.
- Now delete them all from Basecamp.
- Reconnect the GPS and see if they are still there.

Do you mean also to delete from GPS?

Move, not delete

Just move them all to your MAC so you still have them. The GPS has them in memory and will recreate a new Current.GPX file with all of your Favorites.

Hopefully the odd ones with 0,0 for coordinates is in another file.

You don't see them listed in your Favorites do you?

More examination Need GPX editor

On closer examination, I see my favorites in the GPS itself have a whole second duplicate set of points all at 6261 miles which puts them in the ocean. It means that none of these points have a location and are all named with a i. For instance Home 1 6261 miles E, so they must be in the Atlantic. These are whats showing up in Basecamp. So I could go thru the GPS and manually delete them because Basecamp won't do it. I guess I'm down to finding a GPX editor for the Mac. Any ideas?

Can I delete Current1.GPX on the 3790?

Sorry for so many questions but my 660 is working OK and I'm wondering if the current1.gpx is causing the problem? The easy fix here is to copy the current.gpx to the 3790 but I know I can't do it directly and don'r remember how to do it.

My Data

First boot your GPS, then goto "My Data" and you need to delete the bad second set of POIs with no coordinates. I don'y have a 3790 so I hope it still uses My Data to delete the unwanted Favorites.

Then you can continue with removing all the GPX files from the previous post.

EDIT: Your GPS is not using the Current1.gpx file. Nor does it use any other GPX files after the 1st time it reads it. So move them all off the GPS. Any one of the files could have the bad POIs in it.

Where is My Data

I will have to delete a bunch of points 1 at a time unless I can find the My Data but I don't find it.

The 3790

Has Extra instead of Data. I have been trying to delete an extra copy of Red Light Camera and can't seem to get it done.

Favorites with no locations solved!

This problem has evolved with a Basecamp problem to being a problem with half my favorites having no locations. I have gradual learned what was wrong. My final email to Garmin is below:

I Fixed The Problem. Thanks for the help. I removed all the GPX files, Trashed Them, Removed the Nuvi from the computer, Did a master reset, reconnected and added a Clean copy of my favorites from my 660 to the 3790, removed from the computer, and the bad locations are gone. Whatever caused these to be add, I'm not sure but I'm guessing Basecamp a number of months ago was responsible. That was when the first time I started seeing this first occurred. My new resolution is no more Basecamp.

This has been a weird irritating problem. Garmin was as helpful as they could have been long distance and thru email. I appreciate it
