Lighthouses in USA

In the recent past I downloaded the Lighthouses-East Coast POI. I found a similar file at:

http://www.travelbygps.com/guides/lighthouses/

The signal to noise ratio seemed low. There seemed to be a lot of locations that aren't lighthouses and some lighthouses that aren't listed as a location.

I took the information from http://www.travelbygps.com and decided to modify it based on information at the following 2 web sites:

http://www.lighthousefriends.com/pull-lights.asp
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lighthouses_in_the_Unit...

The data information I created seems to be a bit cleaner. I've added a number of lighthouses that weren't included in the original file. I also used http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html to update the coordinates to be more accurrate and added the ARLHS and USCG identifiers if available. An indicator was added too to basically identify if the lighthouse is available by car or not (many are on islands that aren't accessible).

Is there a way to combine or compare the information I have compiled with the existing POI files? I don't want to duplicate effort and files, but I also don't want my effort to be lost.

Right now I have a little over 500 locations but I still have a few states to go.

Any ideas?

We have 2 lighthouse pois groups

A light house poi is one that if it is originally complete won't change a lot in time and does not need a lot of updating.
The 1st group is about 31 individual groups by Mahoney. They are by state. You seem to be looking at (as you indicated) the Lighthouses East Coast poi. It was started in 4/2007. If it is lacking information and locations then it should be updated.
Usually we want this information given to the maintainer (jay dee), but he/she has no contact info and I don't believe active. Contact JM or Globeturtle to see if you can take over that file and then upload what you have. You will be the maintainer.
The only way to compare the files is go through the file 1 by 1.

Lighthouses-USA

Look at this file.

I believe that you will find most if not all of the data that you mentioned. I also included which lighthouses are open to the public along with phone numbers. This file has 813 locations.

@ mahoney. Thats interesting!

This one does not show up on the "alphabetized list" otherwise I would have mentioned it.

Lighthouses

It is listed under Lighthouses in the "alphabetized list". This includes the USA and also the individual states.

Lighthouses USA

The Lighthouses USA file looks a bit cleaner and has good information in it.

I may look into combining some of my information with this file (ARLHS# and USCG#) and sharing it with mahoney.
