Waypoint Categories or Lists and Basecamp

This may be old news to the pros out there but I bought a Nuvi 2555 LMT and whent to use Mapsource to program it. Spent three days playing and testing and will share this with you:

#1: Mapsource will not recognize new Nuvi's. You must use Base Camp.

2. You can move waypoint list from Mapsource to an old Nuvi (mine is a 255W) or or ohter mapsource compatible GPS then load to Base Camp.

3. In Base Camp you will lose all your custom waypoint categories you spent years toiling over. But don't faint here!

4. Under master file name create new list files. Name them your old category names from Map Source. Slowly cut and paste the way points into these list files. Some may be copies and pasted into multiple files.

5. When you go to program the new Nuvi and your old for that matter, drag the individual files to the Nuvi one by one.

6. Within your new Nuvi under SAVED will be all your old way points in the original categories you recreated in Base Camp. Remember don't drag the parent folder only the sub files.

Good journeys!

MTP

Welcome to The Factory!

One thing to consider with the 2555 when things seem odd is that this is one of the models that use MTP:

If there is an issue requiring Mass Storage (MS) mode rather than MTP, info is offered here and elsewhere:

They will...

I'm using MS with my new Nuvi (2595)

You need to change a setting to "Mass Storage" for it to work properly though. (MTP Mode)

See here and follow the directions to enable this and use MS if you are having problems:
