Finding an address with my 1390

Hi,

I've been using my nuvi 1390 for a few months locally and have had no issues.

This a.m. I went to load in an address 1200 miles away for a trip I am going to be taking next week and the nuvi defaults to a similiar address but in a zip code about 90 miles away from my current location. When I punch in the zip code for my destination it says no matches found.

I am sure this is a simple fix, but I thought the gps would have the entire U.S. loaded.

Thanks

maybe

Sounds like the map may not be complete but I would try the [Near] function and enter the name of the city just to narrow down the problem.

You could also check the version of the map in the unit.

Just Checking

When you entered the address, did you change the the state and city of the destination you were seeking?

I do believe the GPS has limitations on how far the distance is to the destination, but I don't know what that figure is.

Distance

In my old Nuvi 855 I could enter a 2,800 mile route with no problem. My Nuvi 3790 can not do it. I have to enter one half of the route and then start a second part of the route from my last end point to my destination. Of course I have to do the same on the return trip.

Maybe the 1390 has similar limitations?

I have on occasion forgotten to change the state when entering an address only to have the GPS find a similiar address in the wrong location (confused me for a bit) confused . So make sure you change the state as muell9k said and then proceed. It shouldn't find an address near you.

What a bummer, newer technology equals less capabilities. That would be an inconvenience for those traveling long distances with newer units.

Since your 855 can plan a route coast to coast, do you have any idea the longest distance your 3790 can do on a single route.?

As an experiment I enterd an address in California from my State of NY into both my Nuvi 660 and my 2460.

Both were able to calculate the route of over 2600 miles. I was able to see the route on the map.

It appears some units can do it in one route where others cannot.

I tried that the other

day with an address in Seattle. Inform that the destination was too long. I enter it in Trip Planner and it routed to the destination. So why it didn't take it in Where To but did in Trip Planner. I have 3790LMT.

I feel like such a dolt. I enter 25-30 addresses for work weekly, I never paid attnetion to the state part.

Thank you muell9k

I tried

I had even spoke to Garmin and they told me the 3790 can not do a long route like that. Split it into two sections otherwise an error message "Too many waypoints".

Glad "hasek" found his to be a different problem and it is solved.

Glad it was that easy. Don't be too hard on yourself, mistakes happen to all of us.

That sucks, Texas to Seattle is not as an extreme a distance as NY to California is.

If you still own all the Nuvi's in your signature.
I wonder if your 2595LMT and 3590LMT are also unable to calculate the route. I'm confident your 855 can do it.

Try Google Earth

Instead of entering a destination address, if you're at all familiar with Google Earth, try entering the address there, and GE will show you your destination. You can fine tune the exact location then enter the lat/long in a custoM POI. It's foolproof. Can't go wrong. Lat/long is indedendent of addresses, states, and cities. It's the only way to fly.

2595LMT

did the same thing. It desn't matter to me, I just use my Trip Planner if I ever want to take a long trip that My Where To will not give me a route.
