City Navigator 2013.20 North America Must Be Close

City Navigator 2013.20 North America must be close to being made available. I believe 2013.10 came out on May 9th, so I'm guessing 2013.20 NA will likely be available sometime in the next week or so.

For whatever it's worth, I've seen some newly added YouTube videos on the Internet showing some new Garmin maps just released for other parts of the world, but I have no idea if new map releases throughout other parts of the world are staggered or whether they come out close to the same time as the new NA releases.

Is everyone ready and excited about 2013.20NA?

I'm not sure what the actual release dates are, but Australia and South America are both out at this point, Australia was released first. I believe Europe will be out a week or two before the North American maps if my memory is correct in assuming this has been the historical trend.

As for the new North America map, I'm not all that excited for this release as I haven't seen enough errors in the current map (2013.10) to notice a difference. I will upgrade at some point when it is available, but no rush on this one for me. I will get it eventually.

Once in awhile I will revert back to my 2008 maps just for fun, to see how roads have changed. One of the main highways around here is barely recognizable.

It's not so much excitement

It's not so much excitement but apathy in my case. Navteq hasn't updated their maps to reflect a new bridge on a state route that has been open in my area for almost a year now. This means unless Garmin decided to be proactive and updated the maps to reflect this change, 2013.20 will still be out of date.

At least it's only a bridge and not a housing complex. But it's still annoying.

Garmin normally posts on their site an XML file which provides a preview of the file set before release. As of today, no such preview is available. You can expect to see the map available for download anywhere from two weeks to a month after the XML file is hosted on the Garmin website. The variable amount of time here is because the map may not pass internal testing. If the map doesn't pass internal testing, it will be delayed until Garmin is satisfied with it.

City Navigator

I'm told that City Navigator Europe is on the Garmin servers and is in fact been recompiled and now shows as 2013.21 instead of 2013.20.

City Navigator North America 2013.20 is not on the servers as you'll see from clicking on canuk's link above.

...so I would not be surprised if it is released tomorrow or sometime next week. I wonder what the reason was for the recompilation of the Europe maps was though? That's the first time I've heard of that Garmin has recompiled a map release before the release date and changed the update name. As for North America, I'm a little surprised to see that it's not on the servers yet. It normally is on the servers at least 2 weeks before the official release and since the release date of 2013.10 was May 9th, I would have expected 2013.20 would at least be on the servers by now. Unless it's uploaded on the servers sometime this week, I think we're headed for a late August release of NA 2013.20. That's fine with me; Garmin covered most of the much needed changes in my area with 2013.10. The only thing I'm really hoping for though is expanded lane assist coverage, which is something I've always looked for in each map update.

It was a bugfix for dēzl 560 units. Apparently the routing wasn't taking into account some truck specific requirements. The dēzl firmware update page mentions this in its changelog.

Who cares?

Well, clearly some people care, but my point is that there are precious few changes from release to release. So I usually don't bother updating with every release unless I discover some feature that I need which isn't in my current map set (and usually isn't in the new one either, but to find out you need to download the darned thing and let it spend hours updating).

Heck the 2006 maps on my old 276c and SP3 are close enough for comfort. The MetroGuide Canada V4.0 maps are in some ways better (if less current) than the latest ones we get today.

Strephon_Alkhalikoi - Have you reported the change to Navteq via their map reporter site? That's what I do and while it takes quite some time to verify the changes, it seems to work.

As for the updates, I sometimes wonder if the changes are more applicable to POI changes than road changes. A road change likely requires that some Navteq staff has to drive it and confirm whereas a POI can easily be confirmed these days via the company's website and a quick phone call.

I always update each quarter. Paid for a device with lifetime maps, why not use it - nothing to lose. The changes may not necessarily be apparent in one's particular local community though from quarter to quarter.

Is there any other reason to

Is there any other reason to go to Navteq?

I reported it twice. Two days after the bridge opened last year, and last month.

New Maps are Tiny steps

I'm in the Dallas Metro area and there is always a lot of major highway and road work here...so I'm always hoping new maps incorporate some of the finished highway and road work. Also, considering that I do a healthy amount of traveling it's always nice to have the latest map available for parts [more] unknown...even though it seems the maps we get are always MANY months, if not even YEARS behind being updated with accurate changes. Lastly, I'm always hopeful that the new maps have more accurate and updated POIs as well.

The maps are never anywhere near up-to-date, but they seem to provide tiny steps with each one that comes out.

When the map file hits the server then you'll not get the file not found error any longer. That is if Garmin continues to place the map files in the same directory structure that they have it the past.

I'm honestly thinking that might be the case because I find it hard to believe that the update has not been at least uploaded to the servers by now. Why Garmin would change the directory structure, I have no idea, but Garmin has done things like that in the past that have no explanation.

Late release

Becuase the Europe maps have been on the server since the end of June and they still have not yet been released, and the amount of time between when the maps are uploaded on the server and when they are actually released is usually the same for the Europe and North America maps. Also, for 2012.20 last year, the North American maps had been uploaded to the server by mid July and weren't released until the beginning of August. Based on this information and the fact that they were just now uploaded today, I think the earliest we would see the North American maps released would be around the 23rd of August. But then again, that's just speculation. Heck, now that they're up on the servers, we could technically see this update tomorrow.

Traffic?

TnPapa wrote:

Ever been to Houston? I live 35 miles west of downtown, and, on average, it takes me 1.5 hours to commute to downtown, then another 1.5 hours to get home. And I take commuter buses from park & ride locations. If I drove in, I would have lost it long ago. And when it rains, my commute is usually extended to near 2 hours each way. All this even after they completed the multi-year widening of I-10 west of downtown. If you can believe it, it used to be worse.

When I go

to Louisiana, I take the Toll Road around Houston, it seems traffic is getting bad on them too. Might have to take roads further north thru Liberty and Dayton.

I have a Dezl 560 and I am very disapointed with the maps and the excessive time it takes to calculate a route. The maps (not sure who's responsible for acuracy, garmin or navtech) many times in many places the device wants to route you thru non truck routes or also in many places it says its non truck routes when it really is, speed limits are wrong, restrictions are wrong, quite pathetic actually considering the money I spent on this thing.
Fortunatly the maptuit maps on the navigo app we use on the qualcomm are much more acurate, so basicly my dezl is there for poi files and ntts info and pretty much nothing else.

I would be surprised if they
