Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? - August 2012

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Daytona Beach to Chicago

Just drove from Daytona Beach to Chicago and as always the 3490 worked like a champ. HD Traffic, even though it's the best that Garmin offers did miss a couple hot spots.

Back downtown....again

But the old Nuvi took me right to the front door smile

New Englad in the pickup >>>

TT 1605 performed flawlessly...then a week riding around PA on the motorcycle...TT340 performed flawlessly.

Drove to WV, VA and PA last week. Had a blast and the POIs from here really helped.

Another LA trip

We returned our granddaughter to LA so that she could start school last week.
My 1490 went bonkers many times with shutdowns at every stop.
When I got home I checked it and it showed no free memory so now I am checking to see what I can delete for all my POIš are on a SD card.

In your GPX file on the 1490, there is a folder called ARCHIVE. I am wondering how many files you have in that folder and the size.

The Yellow Butterfly

Six of us went to the Yellow Butterfly Winery in Newcomerstown, Ohio, over the weekend. Hit three wineries along the way. I did take one precaution with my Nuvi 1450, though. I was sorely tempted to upgrade the maps to 2012.30 before we went, but I stuck with what I had because I knew it worked.
Oh. It was about 115 miles each way.

When I go somewhere new, I download a map of the area from

http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/

This is updated and has more details of smaller streets. It has some faults, but you can switch between maps and chose the best.

Or find the casino on any map, find that spot on your gps, and save it. The roads have probably changed, so you may need to follow street signs when you get close.

Last Trip

My last trip with the GPS was to Paso Robles wine country and the Hearst Castle. The GPS did fine except that there was one POI (restaurant) that was no longer in existence. That's to be expected from time to time though...

Couldn't Do Without It

Sold our home in Mexico at the end of May and spending the summer on The South Shore of Massachusetts before heading back to Texas to house hunt. The Garmin 2730 has been our constatnt companion since being "homeless". Couldn't have made it through this summer stay in MA without it. Leaving out Monday morning for Texas and "Gabby Garmin" will be leading the way.

Baltimore/I-95

Did a trip to and around Baltimore over the weekend. Dodged the worst of the weather and traffic - google nav app performed fine, no issues or concerns.

New England

The wife and I took a week long trip up through the lower New England states. My GPS was extremely handy in some cases. Especially when we were just driving around to see what we could see, and then needed to get back to the hotel. It's great being able to GET lost, yet not BE lost.

Holidays are already over

so will be leaving Florida tomorrow morning,

Like Spider_Elliot

above, I used it to get out of Chicago after last week's Air Show. From where we were in Chicago, you actually go East to get to I-55 South.

Just updated the new maps. It seems, at least in my area there are a lot more intersection views on the Tollway. Went down to the South Side of Chicago to pick up some stuff and as usual it worked flawlessly.

Twice the Fun?

We put the Nuvi 50LM in my son's car for a trip down to Florida (1,220 miles) as he started college.
No problems...

The day before I was flying back home, he asked if he could keep it "just until I learn my way around Fort Myers".
I said goodbye to that 50LM, and now a week later I realize I miss it going to purchase another.

My experience has been that, once you loan your children anything, you will never get it back. One of the prices of parenthood. shock

testing

It seems I'm testing the accuracy of both my 750 and 760 now. They often seem to be off by a block or two, and my paranoia is making sure both units are working.

Sad, but that's how I used my GPS the last time. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry.
