Just curious, but when the new maps come out, do GPS units with the new maps ship before, at the same time, or after the maps are individually available? Or does anyone even know?

As soon as the version is finalized you can order it on their website.
You don't have to wait until they ship units with it.
I would suspect that you can get your hands on the update faster because retailers sell the stock they have before they would order new ones that would have the V9.
