POI to maintain speed?

A friend with a TomTom said if she exceeds the speed limit (or a given speed) it makes a sound. I've yet to see that function in my Garmin. Could a POI be created that does that for a Garmin? Any ideas?

No

Some models like my 3790 have a speed limit indicators. It shows on the bottom right and turns red when you go over the posted speed limit. There is no sound to be had. For my self i'm happy there isn't one. Knowing Garmin, I would have to turn all sound off to eliminate the speed limit sound. I rarely go the posted speed limit, kinda go with the flow of traffic, so that would be rather annoying for me.

Agreed

It would be a nice feature if you could set it to alert you if you are going a preset value, like 10mph, over the limit but I would not want it dinging at me every time I went 1mph over the limit. My 1490 shows the speed limit and my speed and that is okay by me.

Red Speed

Cruise Control

I do use it in my wife's car. I set it about 10 mph above whatever Garmin says is the speed limit.

Alas, my truck has no cruise control...

My Garmin 1390 displays the speed in the lower right. I am happy enough with it turning red. As for an alarm, that is what my son seems to think his job is when we are in the car.

Yup! A plus 10 warning would be nice. Also, would be nice if road work zones would broadcast the speed limit changes for the garmin to pick up...

How about an app?

Wouldn't this work better as an app for a smartphone/ You'd have to connect your Garmin to your computer before you started out each time to be certain you had the latest information. With a smart phone app it could just download the data as you drive and alert you.

Speed Camera POI's Have Speed Settings

I don't have the exact post here but there is a post for plugging in the speed limit into the Speed Camera POI files. You go in to to the .cvs file and put in the number, i.e., 5, 7, 10 mph over the limit that you want to be warned. I downloaded the instructions for future reference.

Try and do a search here.

When it comes to excess speed alerts

With the TomTom units you can choose the sound that it makes from a menu selection that includes "Silence" - which means exactly what the name implies. I assume that Garmin could do the same thing.

With best wishes,

I can turn all alerts sounds off, but some alerts I want to hear a audio cue, and some I don't. I do this by including a wav sound for the POI file that is silence.
