A good TomTom commercial

Well,I thought getting a map update 4 times a year was good, but this is far superior.Assuming it actually does work and is accurate.

TomTom

I remember a commercial a few years ago that showed a mayor cutting the ribbon to the new bridge and a TomTom user came navigating past him.

What Is The Difference?

I don't see any difference between this and the mapshare that TomTom has had for years. Am I missing something?

It's probably no different.

I think that it is the same thing, but they are probably advertising it because they did not have Mapshare for a while after the Microsoft lawsuit forced TomTom to redesign the file system of their newer models. They may have been concerned that people had forgotten about the Mapshare capability - or maybe they just wanted to emphasize it.

Thanks for the heads up!

I was unaware of this feature. I'm going to activate it and give it a try... I'll let you know.

It's A Mixed Blessing, IMO

My personal opinion is that it can be a big help or a big headache, depending upon the quality of the shared information.

If you select the option to accept data that has only been reported by one or two people, you run the risk of accepting bad data. If you choose the other extreme - to accept only data that TomTom itself has confirmed - you will have a significant delay before the data is forwarded, and will also get only a small percentage of the reported data.

With best wishes,

Comments from users, is it really as good as it sounds rolleyes

In the garbage...it works and works well...I have used it to report closed roads in my area and relied on it while traveling. Garmin has pretty pictures, TT has useful technology.

Map Share is not new. As Shooter sez, it has been around for years. Keep in mind that Map Share does not make changes to the "Base Map". Those changes are only made in the quarterly updates.

I have the latest United States map that came out in mid May. My Map Share is set to "Strict" which only uses map changes verified by TomTom. After the last Map Share update, My Go has 9631 Map Share map corrections in use.

It was a good commercial for

It was a good commercial for a feature that has been around for a bit as others have said. I am a recent Garmin convert and was always envious of Mapshare.

And I do remember that commercial of the ribbon cutting on the new bridge, very effective.

Map Share Update

Update: With no change in the parameters stated in an earlier post & after today's update, my GO now has 17,429 Map Share corrections.

Always remember the open-source world's equivalent (http://www.openstreetmap.org/), with Garmin support (http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/).
