More question?

OK, the icon have to be save as BMP or JPEG..??? and when you save in manual, what is the recomended speed and distance.
Thank you
GPSMORON

Icons are bmp

If you are sending red light cameras to the gps you can do it in auto. The word "redlight" is the trigger and I believe it is default 1/4 mile.
The file, icon, and wav file must all be named the same. The extension would be different.

When using Excel, Column A is Longitude, B is Latitude, C is the name you want to see for this POI (no more than 20 or so characters), and D is any additional information you want. This is normally the street address, city, state, zip, and phone.

Save the file as a comma deliminated (CSV) file.

I may very well be off base on this but the jpeg files you found on your unit are probably not "icons" that will show up on the map.

The images in [garmin nuvi]:\Garmin\JPEG are some stock pictures. This folder is one in which you can place pictures that you have taken (in jpeg format) and show them to others using Tools > Picture viewer. You could also use one of these pictures as your default "splash" screen.

If you get an audio Ping, then that much is working.
You will have to have some .wav file that you will rename exactly the same as the camera file on the left side of the period separating the file name and its extension.

You can get a .mp3 version at
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13643
but it will have to be converted to .wav and renamed as I just mentioned.

Garmin nuvi 1300

OK
1 I make a folder, redlightcamera, Install a RedLightCamera.csv

2 I make files, redlightcamera.wav (convert the mp3 to wav PCM 44.100Khz 16 bit mono)install in RedLightCamera folder.

3 Make a file, redlightcamera.bmp install in RedLightCamera folder.

4 Use POIloader from Garmin with SOX version 14.0.1
save manual Test and )Don't speak)only PING PING

5 With POI loader remove all POI, install again the RedLightCamera folder and save as (Recomended)

6 Test in redlightcamera and only have a PING_PING

Now my question is, this 1300 is MP3 or is wav or i am a real moron

HELP

1300

requires .WAV and SOX.EXE. Make sure SOX.EXE is in the same folder that has "POI Loader.EXE".

HELP

I believe the files have to be the same name, including upper and lower case.
You can use express mode also. The keyword redlight will cause a default of 1/4 mile.

SOX Version

Also, I had a problem with the latest version of SOX. It would sometimes not load a wav file.

I had to backup one version. Everything has been fine since.

--
NUVI40 Kingsport TN

The word "redlight" is a key word.

Try naming your files as I have:
Redlight Cameras.bmp
Redlight Cameras.csv
Redlight Cameras.wav

You can run them in express mode.
Also make sure you have sox.exe in the same folder as poi loader.exe

--
Nuvi 2460LMT.

I think this is what you need

You will need to have sox.exe (ver 14.0.1) in your
"Program Files\Garmin\POI Loader" folder.

In your redlightcamera folder, you should have two files
redlightcamera.csv
redlightcamera.wav

named exactly as above.

You will run POI Loader in express mode pointing it to the redlightcamera folder

Garmin support

My question to Garmin support was.
My unit nuvi 1300 is without mp3 capability?
How do I get voice alerts for poi redlight cameras.?

and this is there answer

Dear Garmin Customer,
Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I am happy to help you. Please ensure the proximity alerts are selected on the device, see below.
Cyclops safety camera information will be available on your device once you have successfully downloaded the database to your device. You may purchase a safety camera or dangerous zones subscription on our website here: http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/cache/offonce/us/extras/ser...
To view the database information on your nuvi, LIVE or zumo device:
1. Touch Tools (Some devices skip this step)
2. Touch Settings
3. Touch System
4. Touch About
5. Touch the Extras & Safety Cameras option or scroll down to find the database information
The database information should be listed, showing the copyright and the date that the safety camera database was last updated. This means that the information has been successfully added to your device.

To enable or disable safety camera or dangerous zone alerts on most nuvi and zumo models:
1. Touch Tools (Note: Some units do not require this step.)
2. Touch Settings
3. Touch Proximity Points
4. Touch Change under the Alerts box
Garmin Safety Cameras1 should be displayed on your device in this location, allowing you to disable or enable the alerts.
1Although the alerts are titled "Garmin Safety Cameras," this may be referring to a Dangerous Zones subscription (France only) that is installed to the device, even though the Dangerous Zones subscription does not include safety camera locations.

Why doesn't my Garmin device alert me to every Safety Camera location?
If you have Garmin Safety Cameras enabled on your device but you do not receive an alert when passing some of the safety camera locations, there are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

The Garmin Safety Camera alerts have a feature in which they will only warn you if you are traveling within 10% below the speed limit or any range above the speed limit. For example, if you are traveling at 26 mph/kph or less in a 30 mph/kph range, you will not be alerted to the camera. If you are traveling at 27 mph/kph or more in the 30 mph/kph range, you will be alerted. This is the same for all speed limits.

If you are traveling in the speed limit range but you are still not being alerted to certain safety cameras, please make sure the safety cameras are up to date on the device.

To update the Garmin Safety Cameras if you have a One Year Subscription or Free Trial: Visit the myGarmin homepage
1. Sign in with your username and password
2. Click Subscriptions under myExtras
3. Click Safety Camera Subscription
4. Select either Download Again or Get Update
When the update is complete you will have the latest Garmin Safety Camera locations on your device.
If you have not yet activated your Free Trial, you would like to purchase a One Time download or you would like to renew your One Year Subscription, visit the Safety Camera page to start your selection process.
If you are driving in the speed limit range and you have the latest safety camera update on the device but you are still not alerted to every camera, you can report the location of the camera on our website to be investigated.

SSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOO this unit nuvi 1300 have MP3 capable???????????????? Lord my English is so bad, germin don't help, they want to sell

Yes

Yes i have sox.exe in the same folder that has Poi loader.exe

OK

I have the 3 files in the redlightcamera folder
redlightcamera.csv
relightcamera.wav
redlightcamera.bmp
also i have sox.exe ver 14.0.1 install in the same folder when poiloader.exe is located

Now you have you file redlight camera with space.

@Gpsmoron

Garmin will not admit that the unit is capable of using wav files. They know nothing about wav files and therefore can not help you. Your unit (as stated numerous times) uses wav files.
It was quite a while ago (years) that a member on this forum found out that wav files work.

Please follow the instructions given. Jgermann and mine will work.

Either way will work

With space or without space.

Also, I hope its a typo error for the wav file (relightcamera.wav.

gpsmoron wrote:

None of the models in recent times have MP3 capability. Garmin did away with it.

And, Garmin does not support wav capability. That's why we need SOX

MP3 Capability Gone. Get Used To It.

In general, no nüvi made in the last three or four years will have MP3 capability. I could be wrong about that of course, but as an owner of a 1300 I can most definitely tell you that the 1300 doesn't have MP3 capability. So stop looking for it unless you want a unit dating back to 2007. And...don't ask Garmin for help. They have absolutely no clue that the nüvis can even accept WAV files.

All files must bear the same name. Only the extension needs to be changed. For example, Rest Areas will have the following three files:

Rest Areas.csv
Rest Areas.bmp
Rest Areas.wav

If the names are not identical, POI Loader will ignore that file. Using the example above, if I misspelled "Rest Areas.wav" as "Rest Area.wav", POI Loader will ignore the sound file while installing everything else. POI Loader will also ignore files with a double extension. On Windows machines, by default the extension is hidden and must be unhidden to see it. However, more often than not the user attempts to add the extension by hand, not realizing that the file already has an extension. Thus, renaming "Rest Areas" to "Rest Areas.wav" actually results in the file being renamed to "Rest Areas.wav.wav".

After checking to make sure you don't have double extensions, rename your files to "Redlight Camera" as previously mentioned and try again. The nüvi likely doesn't see "redlightcamera" as a keyword.

-----------------------------------------------------

For the record, the FAQ is in error regarding the sound quality of the file. The sound quality doesn't matter. All that matters is that SOX can read it. I have my sound files set to 16KHz Mono and have had no issues with them working.

You are right, of course. My bad. Keywords are case sensitive and should stand alone.

YES SR.

I have garmin nuvi 1300 and Garmin Nuvi 350, i like best my 350 with MP3

you are 100% correct

when i install the redlight-camera.wav file in the redlight-camera folder, i note in the folder i have no wav extension, i whrite the extension again and when i save with garmin poi loader+sox file y see in the garmin poi, redlight-camera.wav.wav and when tested i have no sound...Now i install again with not extension, just redlight-camera and now is working i have my own sound...Thank you every one for your help

Double extensions?

gpsmoron, this sounds like you have the "Hide extensions for known file types" preference checked in your Windows folder options (I think that is the defualt). When you add the .wav extension, you are really adding a double extension (.wav.wav) since the first one is hidden. The double extension is what is causing the file to not be recognized. You might want to go into the folder options and remove that preference.
