How come I can't see the icon symbols of the different locations I have downloaded...Some only have dots instead of the business's symbol?

Thanks for the info.

Since I have a 765-T (which I love), I have to just ask questions about the newer models.

So, to help me (and others trying to help the new members), let me delve a little deeper.

For a red light camera specifically, the 3590 will
1. show an icon on the left side of the screen (Q: is these icon selectable, ie. the .bmp associated with the POI file)
2. Show in the top bar of the screen (which green bar would otherwise be showing, say, the upcoming exit in routing mode) the address location of the camera taken from the POI file.

Q: If the alert is for, say, a McDonalds, (and the McDonalds file has an attached .bmp file) is that the Icon shown on the left? The reason I ask is that, assuming a proper zoom, my 765 would show the Icon at its map position.

Thanks for bearing with me.

Mama....lol...I have 2

Mama....lol...I have 2 garmin 3590...one of them has alert box workn no icons...other gps has icons workn no alert box...go figure...lol...it seems if I manually set alert distance for all pois I want alerts for I lose icons...do I express install first then go back and manual set alerts...or visa versa? Tried again manually adding pois alerts first...then pois express install...the other gps I expressed installed first...then manually set each alerts distance...one has icons no alerts...the other alerts no icons...its like one install is overriding the other by manual and express?

Simplify

@crathbun,
please go look at what MM suggested on the previous page of this thread.

I agree with her.

work with one device only.

Make a backup. Did I mention make a backup. If I failed to mention make a backup, I will do so now.

After the backup, let POI Loader delete all the poi files on one of the GPS units.

Then go back and print out what MM wrote. If you have to copy her post and paste the instructions into a word processing program, then please do that.

After you have followed her instructions, please let us know what happened.

We want you to be comfortable with each step before moving on.

I followed all her steps

I followed all her steps

And?

When I read this post

It seemed to me that you were pretty far off from MM's instructions. So I posted above.

Then, you said

So now I am wondering. Are the comments in quote one above after you followed her instructions?

If they are not, then what happened when you followed them?

Afterthought:
When you run POI Loader, are you giving a unique name to the file which POI LOader will use to name the .gpi file it puts in the [garmin nuvi]:\Garmin\POI folder on the nuvi?

Please look a one of the nuvis and tell us what files you see in the [garmin nuvi]:\Garmin\POI folder.

icons on nuvi 3590

I took my 3590LMT with me this morning to pay some bills. Here is what I notice. There is a red light camera at a cross street that I took. The alert sounded and the top bar where it shows the name of the cross street, the name of the cross street diappear and it was showing the speed alert instead of the name of the cross street. Also an icon on the left of the screen it looked like a speaker. Now when I approach another red light camera head on, the icon did not show just the speed alert at the top. Why. Both time the alert sounded.

I got same result...one gps

I got same result...one gps has alert box no icons...other gps has icons no alert box...u can't use poi loader to manually install alert sounds and express load pois at the same time...its like manually overwrites the express install...and visa versa...express overwrites manual...depending which u do first manual or express...express won't allow u to set distance of alert....so thats why u have to open poi loader twice and manually and express download pois to gps

I do all my POI Loader on Manual. I got both alert with a ding. Just didn't get an icon with the RLC pointing straight at me just the one that was on a side street.

That doesn't have anything to do with sound files.

On my 40, if there is no wav file, there is no pop-up.

To get a pop-up you need to set an alert - and that triggers the default alert tone.

Yes, you need to set an alert (which was part of the process I spelled out), but you do not need to load a Custom Sound.

See "Silent Alert"

david made a post on page one of this thread called "Silent Alert" which suggests using a .wav file with no sound to overcome the sound alert.

He said..

crathbun wrote:

...I dont really want the alert sounds just the icon on map.

And later on he said something about wanting to see pop-up boxes.

The only way I know of to get the pop-up box with NO sound, for specific POI files, is to have a wav file of silence.

Sorry to jump but I had

Sorry to jump but I had issue with icon. I download icon and csv from this site, walmart, buger king. They are:
walmart.csv, walmart.bmp, burgerKing.csv and burgerKing.bmp. Then I use POILoader to transfer to nuvi 3450.

When I went into "custom POI", I see walmart icon when click on walmart. But when i click on Burger King, I do not see the burger king icon. Am i going something wrong? I then re transfer to nuvi 3450 again but still no burge king icon. Please help

Turn your GPS off, then, starting at a Burger King, drive somewhere for about a half mile, then stop it. Then drive somewhere else where BK is on the route. Make sure your map is on 200 ft resolution.

Is it there now?

Fix for custom POI icons not displayed on moving map

The problem with custom POI icons not displaying on my nuvi3490/nuvi3590 had to do with AUTO ZOOM. If AUTO ZOOM is enabled, the POI icons are not displayed on the moving map. If AUTO ZOOM is disabled, POI icons are displayed on the moving map.

If your nuvi "locale" is set to "United States", you do not have the option to disable AUTO ZOOM. To disable AUTO ZOOM you need to switch your locale to "Australia" or "United Kingdom". The process for switching locales is explained here:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/31354

Remember to back up your saved locations (Current.gpx) before clearing all user data!
